We were really taken back by the hotel policy to pay upfront for the accommodation upon arrival. That was completely different from our previous stay last year at the Hotel Sentido in KhaoLak. It was not just the request but the constant harassment each day to pay in cash after the hotel managed to freeze our account with the payment for some reason. They were nice enough to communicate with our bank to unfreeze the account so we have paid electronically in the end. We also found uncalled for to pay a deposit on our bar spending instead of settling our bill at our check out. We would have preferred to give our card details for deposit purposes. Our experience also highlights that although the hotel is 4* their customer services are of a much lower rated hotel if we compare it to Sentido. Constantly broken lock to our door for the first 2 days and building site noise didn't add to our experience either. We can however highlight their cleanliness and large breakfast spread.
Cleanliness, modern deco, spa and food selection and location. Kitchen and bar staff were very polite, smiley, professional and friendly. Approached me several times to ensure I’m okay or if I needed anything more. I went for the 3.5hrs spa and had a private room. It was amazing! The spa staff were very friendly and took great care of me. Beachfront location was amazing and just next to Cafe del mar. I had a really comfortable and satisfied stay. Highly recommend staying here.
- I placed a deposit of 3000 Baht cash at check in and 10 mins later ordered some food at the bar while waiting for my room. Another check-in reception staff seen that I was about to sign the cheque under my room and shouted across the bar saying ‘Mam! You can’t sign that! You didn’t put any deposit!’. After informing her I did place the deposit she was still doubtful and insisted I didn’t before proceeding to check. There were other people around and it was embarrassing! This was my first time here as a solo traveller. I didn’t expect this kind of treatment from Novotel’s front desk staff. Even if any guests had not placed a deposit, there is no need to shout across the room. I was very disappointed and even more upset with her lack of guilt. She was more concerned of her colleague making a mistake and angrily passing remarks to the latter at my presence. The experience has initially left me a bad image of Novotel Kamala however this was the only negative experience I had. The colleague who made the mistake was very apologetic and came around the desk to apologise to me personally. - The lift outside the private room Spa was very noisy and aggressive as it open and closes and created some vibrations. I can’t really relax.
Direct access to the beach.
Needs an upgrade. Getting to look and feel a little tired. More holiday inn than Hilton.
Perfect for a beach vacation
Situated on the far end of the Kamala Beach, the hotel as a virtually exclusive part of the beach. It's a 10-15 minute walk to any beach amenities like fruit shakes, massages etc., but that also means that pretty much only hotel guests use it, so it's quite clean and quiet. The sea is clean. Far from the transparent turquoise of the islands, though, but there's zero trash on the beach or in the water. Breakfasts are great. Enough variety, and everything is delicious. Pretty much western selection of foods for breakfast. Different tropical fruit smoothies every day.
The slightly secluded spot is cool, but there's an obvious downside – you have to walk 15-25 minutes to Kamala town buy anything. You have to walk through the beach, too, so any nice footwear stays in your room and you get about in rubber slippers. It is technically possible to walk on the road, but highly inadvisable, especially in the dark. There are many rocks in the water near the shore, and they are unpleasantly sharp. The water is not clear enough to spot them well. There's a construction site right next to the hotel. Windows in the D building open straight to the site. The view is not pretty, and it's noisy at times. It will definitely go on for a while, as there're just digging right now.
