The bed was comfortable. A double is actually 2 singles together but was still comfortable. Location was brilliant right next to the station. Walking in to the hotel is lovely. Big grand staircase and lovely bar area. Restaurant wasnt very inviting but the bar area in the reception area was lovely to sit and have a drink. Breakfast was really good. Lots of choice for hot buffet food, haggis, black pudding, bacon and the usuals. The cold selection was good aswel lots of cheese, meats, yogurts, toast, pastries. Good tea and coffee! Staff were lovely. Big grand room. I imagine in its heyday it was very grand. Will deffo stay here again as the hotel itself is really lovely and really enjoyed the breakfast just maybe a different room.
I WOULD DEFINITELY still stay at the hotel again even with the following, they arent major things but things that need looking into- The rooms are a bit dated. It is an old grand hotel and downstairs it is in keeping with this and beautiful but the rooms are looking tired with it. Our room was so hot and we couldnt turn the radiator off, had to sleep with the window open all night and we were directly above the railway station so it was noisy with the trains. The yellow walls make the room feel smaller than it already is. The shower was TINY. it filled up with water well over ankle deep within minutes and I was lucky I looked down when I did as it was overflowing onto the floor! Literally after a couple if minutes. No room to really move around in the shower it was ridiculously small, no shower tray to hold your soap/shampoo etc which was a pain trying to balance the bottle anywhere bearing in mind it was flooded and couldnt use the shower bottom. Dont think the room is worth 80 odd pounds. Maybe with breakfast included our room was a 70 pounds room for the size etc.. but that's personal opinion.
The lobby and facade of the front are beautiful.
The young waitress that was wearing a lot of makeup, that works in the restaurant, was very brash and rude. I asked the receptionist for a quiet room - she put us at the top of the stairs with huge footfall and next to a room with screeching women at 4am. This is after she proclaimed ‘we have loads of availability’. Dumb.
Great location, lovely lobby, good breakfast and dinner, staff all friendly and helpful.
Room was very small and dated, mattress too hard. A lot of painting peeling in the bathroom, where there was a fair bit of mould and water stains. Shower itself has only two settings - freezing or scalding. Quite expensive for what it was.
Room was lovely, very clean upon arrival, staff were very friendly and helpful. Will definitely stay again!
