Beautiful hotel right in the center of the town. Amazing room and common areas. Excellent breakfast
Top 3 things: 1. The staff, they are discreet yet super friendly and helpful. 2. The location, centralised and easy to explore Georgetown by foot if you’re not driving. 3. The history, architecture, and amenities. Ok so I cheated and lumped 3 things into the last point. But it’s hard to limit it to a few points as the hotel has so many great things going for it! The history - you feel like you’re in an Ang Lee pre-war movie. The architecture - so lovingly restored and maintained. The facilities - the awesome pantry that is open 24/7. You don’t even have to step out of the hotel if you don’t want to.
This is really just suggestions, and don’t impact the experience of my stay much at all. Top 3 suggestions: 1. Have better and more varied tv channels. Yes people don’t stay in their rooms when in Penang. But the selection is so limited, you’re hard pressed to find something to watch in the middle of the night if you can’t sleep. 2. Your bathrooms are big enough to fit in bathtubs. Maybe convert a few rooms to have 2-in-1 bathtubs/showers instead and charge a bit extra for that? I would have loved a soak. 3. What would truly make me stay in 24/7 and spend more? Have a spa. There’s some space in front of the pool where the 3 private seating area are. I think that’s enough space to convert into a small spa. The smoking area can be converted to al-fresco sitting area for breakfast and refreshments.
Lovely historic mansion - converted well. The staff at the Edison were exceptional- friendly and professional. Large rooms, good breakfast and all day snacks a bonus, though not sure why they need to offer instant noodles to guests when just outside the gate is some of the best food in the world.
The beds were very hard and I found the pillows particularly uncomfortable. My request for a softer one was not able to be met. A power plug closer to a mirror would have been useful. Also missing was a fridge - unusual in a hotel of this standard. The music from over the road was frightful - ear plugs (provided) are essential.
Everything!! It is beautiful, elegant and charming. So many little touches which elevate the experience. Wonderful helpful and friendly staff. Great location. Snack room is a great idea. Bed extremely comfortable. I even liked the loud Red Garden Asian Food market across the road - great, cheap food, much variety and fabulous entertainment (singers doing Western and Asian covers) - at times hilarious and good fun. The best boutique hotel I’ve ever stayed at.
Nothing not to like.
This hotel has remarkable customer service! Without any exaggeration the service is comparable with Ritz-Carlton.
