Gästehaus Gerold - Garmisch-Partenkirchen - Building

9.3 Excellent (257 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Gästehaus Gerold in Bad Kohlgrub, you'll be within a 15-minute drive of Erlebnisberg Steckenberg and Schlossmuseum Murnau. Free self parking is available onsite.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: We've been in Germany for a month. This was the most comfortable bed on the entire trip (and we've stayed in a few luxury hotels). It was also a genuine double bed i.e. a single large mattress, not two twins pushed together. Host spoke excellent English and was willing to accommodate all our cycling needs.
Cons: Unfortunately the hotel is on the main road, and there is no air conditioning, so if it is hot, you need the window open. The hotel provides a fan, and earplugs. We were able to comfortably close the windows in the evening, and had no problems with noise.

Pros: The staff was friendly, the town was charming and the breakfast was tasty. The location was handy to Ludwig's Linderhof Palace and Neuschwanstein Castle.
Cons: Bill could only be paid in cash - we were not aware of this until we checked out.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very friendly, the rooms were very quiet and the location is convenient to the village center of Garmisch.
Cons: The rooms don't have much of a view, but they are pleasant nonetheless.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The staff was simply lovely. So helpful and kind. Spoke English very well and when my German wasn't making sense (a lot), many could speak English. The breakfast each morning was wonderful including eggs, sausage, and bacon. Location within walking distance to both darling downtown area and train station (taxis at train station) as well as to bus line which we took to and from the Partnach Klamm gorge by the Olympic Ski jump. We had a balcony with a table and 2 chairs and views of the alps.
Cons: The shower/tub was very strange. Hard to get into the tub and then needed to some shut a 2 paneled shower glass door over the tub. Beds were very very firm which I don't mind, but others will.

7.5 Good
Pros: A nice hotel in the middle of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Very nice breakfast, very nice and efficient staff. The evening meal was very, very good. A creative, still a local kitchen. Full marks!!
Cons: Look at the first picture above and you think it is free standing on a Bavarian meadow, not so! The room should get an overhaul, carpet full of stains, otherwise clean.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very friendly, the food was wonderful and the setting was great. I felt this was the nicest hotel I’d stayed in and I’ve stayed at 5 star hotels in the past. I’d highly recommend this to everyone.
Cons: Absolutely nothing. Loved it!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect location in the middle of Garmisch within walking distances to restaurants and shops. From the moment we walked in the door, warm greetings and a tour of the facilities by Frank. Our room had a perfect balcony view of the Zugspitze. The saunas were wonderful too.
Cons: I loved everything about this hotel. Will definitely plan to stay here again.
9.2 Excellent

10.0 Excellent
Pros: This was our favorite hotel during our 13 day stay in Europe. The moment we arrived, we felt relaxed. The room was very comfortable and clean with a large bathroom. The food was delicious-- we had a multi course, romantic dinner at sunset and a huge breakfast the next morning. I was impressed by the variety of foods offered in the buffet-- traditional eggs, pancakes, OJ, etc but they also have a variety of pastries, muesli and yogurt bar with innumerable toppings, cheeses and meats. The view of the mountains is stunning and the hike down to the Partnachklamm should not be missed!
Cons: We failed to read about the parking situation before we arrived-- this was our mistake but future visitors should be aware. You cannot drive all the way up to the hotel. You have to park in a lot just outside the entrance to the Partnachklamm Gorge and then take a mini gondola up to the hotel. We had some difficulty finding this and ended up driving places that we shouldn't have!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Superb view and location. Greatest mountain view from the room. Nice spa. Nice F&B. Almost perfect.
Cons: If only there is a swimming pool. And kids could be boring as SPA is for adults only and there is nothing could play for little kids.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The most wonderful hotel, the best we have ever stayed in!!! Everything from start to finish was first class, the room, staff, food, location all excellent. You access the hotel via a small cable car with spectacular views over the gorge. I honestly cannot say enough about this hotel - you have to come and see for yourself!!! Well done to the hotel owners and all their staff - keep up the good work!
Cons: I wasn’t keen on the open plan bathroom! I do like a little privacy, however the view whilst having a shower to the mountains beyond was fantastic!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Great staff, cleanliness, excellent breakfast and breathtaking views
Cons: Since its not allowed to drive to this property, taking the heavy suitcases up and down using the gondola was challenging and tiring. Little help was offered by the staff for this purpose.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was great!
Cons: Dinner took quite a long time and the waitress was not as friendly as the rest of the staff. It took him like 10 minutes to get us noticed and then like 20 minutes to bring our drinks. Since it was taking sooooo long we got the menu ourselves and he was quite mad and unfriendly because we took the menu. Food was excellent but again it took ages between dish and dish...
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Everything was great
5.4 Okay
Cons: The room services
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Everything
Cons: Using cable car whenever u want to go out and come back to the hotel

Pros: Setting is unbeatable. Access via small cable car is fun. Half board - four course dinners and breakfasts are superb. Staff very friendly and professional. Bed comfortable. Room modern, clean and spacious. Spa facilities great - worth paying for a treatment. Special table laid for our anniversary which was kind. Highly recommended!
Cons: We stayed in very hot weather - no AC or fan available. Not adults only (inc in the Spa).

Pros: - Location - Cleanliness
Cons: - No in room service at all, reception never answers. - had to open windows (no AC), but then the noise from the street became a problem. - overpriced for the service received.
7.9 Good
Pros: the wine we chose for dinner!
Cons: We had Nature double room ( 325 EUR / night/bb) , which was smaller than we expected. Ref to the restaurant after reading the reviews, we wanted to have dinner here. I gave up other restaurants with good reviews to enjoy a wonderful dinner at the hotel; Unfortunately the experience was not a pleasant one, because although we were initially told that there are no places, we were eventually offered a table; I found out later that there were plenty of empty tables that evening. Dinner was below expectations, for example, I ordered a tuna steack that came in insufficiently cooked (my belief is that it was removed from the freezer and put on the grill); we expressed our dissatisfaction with the dinner, and the waiter who served us told us that in that evening the chef is not in the kitchen and that probably the one who takes his place is not as skilled! Also I have to mentioned that I received a glass of wine with traces of lipstick on it. After we finish the dinner, we kindly asked to bring our wine glasses on the terrace but he refused us because he did not offer services on the terrace in that evening, because during the day had probably rained 30 min .( as we noticed) .. so complicated ...... we were disappointed considering the high cost of this hotel and especially the reputation;

Pros: The location would normally be considered very good, as it is near the old section of Partenkirchen; however, our room was above the restaurant/Biergarten, and the facility is close to the town church, which has a loud, ringing bell.
Cons: Please see above re the noise factors.

Pros: Very helpfull staff, free parking right in front of the hotel, very good breakfast

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was quite attractive boasting a typical Bavarian facade. The room was very large with high ceilings and two large windows allowing for ventilation and natural light. There was ample closet and storage space to unpack. The front desk staff was very helpful and accommodating. The location was in the heart of old town Partenkirchen and surrounded by an impressive selection of restaurants. Cable cars/ ski lifts to mountain tops and a variety of hiking trails were a 15 to 20 minute walk from the hotel. The quaintness of the area can be summed up by noting that every morning we were gently awakened by cow bells as the cows spotted to drink at the fountain right outside the hotel on their way from the stable to pastures up in the mountains. Finally, breakfast was included and was delicious with multiple choices from scrambled eggs to meats and cheeses to fresh fruit, homemade jams and muesli.
Cons: Nothing.

Pros: This Traditional Bavarian hotel is excellently located a short walk to the centre of Garmish with fabulous views of the mountains from our balcony room 43, staff so friendly and attentive and great breakfast from the terrace with a view of the Zugspitze!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is a beautiful hotel! My room even had a balcony... I wasn't expecting that! And the view from the balcony was so beautiful. Everything from the lovely decor to the friendly staff exceeded my expectations. Breakfast was delicious as well... Sitting in their gorgeous breakfast room gazing at the alps was such a great way to start the day.
Cons: This hotel was great... I can't think of anything that I didn't like. The constant church bells were distracting (the ring every 15 minutes) but I got used to them over time.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location - about a 5 minute walk to the downtown pedestrian area. Very nice hotel in a pretty setting. Good breakfast with many choices.
Cons: The typical European mattress on a wooden base is a bit firm for my tastes. No A/C could result in some pretty warm rooms in the summer. The road leading to the hotel (Loisachstrasse) was under construction at the intersection with route 23 in early June. I would check out Google maps ahead of time to find the alternate route to the hotel.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is in a beautiful place and it's in the middle of the city. The hotel staff was very polite and humble exceeded my expectations. Got a good room with mountain view and the breakfast was superb! Hotel staff gave us tickets for the buses so din payed anything. If you interested in biking .. hiking.. you can rent bike and climbing stuff also. Near by is middle of city which has all daily need items , restaurants, shopping stuff like clothes , souvenirs, electronics and many more. 30 mins bus ride to eibsee lake . The mountains is very close to this place. I really like to thanks all the staff who were very professional and humble for service. 4.2 Okay
Pros: Free bus pass to town is provided by Reception.
Cons: I booked a room in this hotel some months ago, only upon arrival to be told that we were being placed in a room in a different building across the street. I was not told this would happen - if I had been, I would have cancelled and booked elsewhere. The room itself was quite spacious, but very noisy - the road outside is a main through road, with cars, trucks, motorbikes and tractors all day and night. It's a longish walk into town, and the air quality is very poor, so use the free bus service. There is no air conditioning so having a window open is the only choice. There was a dvd player in the room, but this was useless as there was no remote control. The room lacked the usual folder of info about the hotel, the area, etc - would have been useful as crossing the road to ask a question at Reception wasn't easy. Breakfast was disappointing - items were slow to be replenished, if at all, and dirty plates were not collected, leaving customers sat amongst piles of plates and bowls.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Room 109 was smallish but charming, with one complete wall being a window, which was nice, and it did not face the street so it was quiet enough if the door to the balcony was closed. There is no air conditioning in the room. The front desk staff was very helpful with everything, including selling us Zugspitze tickets. The breakfast was OK, not anything really special, but it had a broad selection. We ate dinner in the restaurant twice, the second time having only a large dinner salad, which was exceptional. Overall the hotel’s price/value relationship was excellent.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very beautiful hotel, short walk to centre of the town with restaurants. All the staff is very helpful and friendly.
8.8 Excellent

5.4 Okay
Pros: Easy to get on free hop on/hop off bus in front of hotel. Potential for decent views in right room but my view was Partially blocked with adjacent building. Staff is friendly.
Cons: Pool wasn’t what I expected- was right next to dining area so no privacy, also I think you enter from dining room. Privacy fence would take care of that real quick. Pics are deceiving. Cars on main road loud so could not sleep well as with no AC needed window open. Bring your own toiletries as there’s just one all purpose soap dispenser in shower. Have to catch the bus to go to main part of town. For the price it just wasn’t equivalent to other places in Europe. Bathroom needed bleach for urine smell
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location. Friendly service Liked the breakfast and the dinner Stayed here before and will be back
10.0 Excellent

Pros: Friendly staff.
Cons: Very small room.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Location good. Great balconies with views over GaPa. Free parking. Lunch at the restaurant was good.
Cons: Breakfast comparatively expensive so we didn’t have it. Rooms basic and smallish. No AC or fan so needed window open, however, balcony overlooked beer garden which (despite being closed in the evenings) was used by other guests to drink and talk late at night.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Breathtaking view first of all. The rooms are cosy and the breakfast restaurant and outside patio are nice. Very friendly staff. Klatterveld (tree top climbing) is just up the hill and we had lots of fun there (kids from 6 YO).
Cons: The little reception area could need some touching up - first impression when I entered was a little dubious. Also no shampoo in room - would have been nice to have.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The views from our balcony we're breathtaking! Excellent breakfast, comfy bed, very friendly, spotlessly clean and helpful owner with good English.
Cons: The bar and restaurant were closed when we stayed as it was early in the week. Missed out on enjoying dinner and drinks on the wonderful terrace! For me personally, I would only stay here with a car as it is a bit out of town.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: every thing, and the staff
Cons: nothing
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The view is spectacular, very nice room and bathroom.
Cons: Downside is the stairs and the fact that there is no one on the reception somedays, we needed forks and knifes for some food ans could not get it.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: An excellent choice for staying in this area!
Gästehaus Brigitte - Garmisch-Partenkirchen - Building

8.7 Excellent (636 reviews)

The family-run Gästehaus Brigitte offers comfortable accommodation in the centre of Bavarian mountain resort Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Free WiFi internet access is available throughout. All rooms at Gästehaus Brigitte include cable TV and a private bathroom with a hairdryer. There are also apartments available which have a separate bedroom and a fully equipped kitchen with a coffee machine. The south-facing balcony overlooks St-Martin street and has a view of the mountains. The Bavarian countryside is ideal for hiking, cycling, and skiing, and the guest house offers storage space for skis. It is 5 km to the Zugspitze Mountain, the highest in Germany, and 20 km to the Austrian border. A continental breakfast is served in the breakfast room each morning (until 31 March 2020), and within a 2-minute walk of the guest house there are several restaurants specialising in German and international cuisine. 8.8 Excellent
Pros: We liked the fact that the apartment we booked was exactly as described on the internet. The balcony was really good being very big, well protected from the rain and with a good view of the mountains. Breakfast was fine, as expected, not the lavishness of a 4 star hotel but perfectly adequate. there was cereal, yogurt, cheese, eggs, meat rolls, toast, preserves etc Room was well cleaned everyday and the owner was really friendly and helpful and spoke excellent English Great number of TV channels including BBC and other English speaking news channels . The washing machine was a bonus enabling us to do simple laundry as we were in Bavaria for 10 days. There is a tourist tax of 3 Euros a day per adult but it comes with a gastekarte that gives you free transport on all the local and regional bus service + discount at attractions. The bus service is very good.
Cons: Nothing really, but to be picky, the wine glasses were a bit of a job lot and the hand and bath towels were quite basic - not the fluffiest of fluffy but did the job fine and were changed daily.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was excellent, location not so far from Marienplatz and Banhof also quite convenient, you can easily ride from there to any direction. Interior in charming Bavarian-style, the room was with 2 balconies, clean and nice.
Cons: The only small issue (not for me, but for someone with a bigger figure or pregnant women) - in our room was shower cabin with door opening inside (or maybe it also opening outside?), so when you want to get out of there, there is not so much space during the process of opening this door, so not everyone can use it. Also between the glass wall of the shower cabin and its door was a small gap, so sometimes some drops of water could reach outside. Overall it's just a bad construction of shower cabin, but unless you don"t have a huge figure or you're not a pregnant woman it will not be a big problem.
8.8 Excellent

Cons: Breakfast not so good

3.8 Mediocre
Pros: I stayed at the Bavaria Hotel for 4 nights. The place is beautiful. It is just beautiful. Everything looked pretty, the lobby, the rooms and the breakfast area. You just feel that you are in an old beautiful well maintained house in Germany.
Cons: However, I visited in the Summer and it was REALLY hot. There is no air-conditioning system and the hotel does not provide fans. I opened the windows at night so that I can sleep but my room was filled with insects. They were everywhere . There were bugs on the towels and when I screamed my neighbor knocked at my door to complain because the walls are not soundproofed. So i bought a fan! A very basic and limited breakfast was included in my room rate but it did not look tempting even to my empty stomach. The scrambled eggs looked funny and the bread did not look fresh. I wanted some tea and the person who was cleaning the tables with her hands grabbed the tea pot and two of her fingers were inside the pot and that was it. I did not want that tea any more and I decided to skip breakfast after that. in terms of location, the hotel is 10 minutes walk from the main train station but a bit far from the old town. I won't stay there again
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Excellent, mainly healthy breakfast. Excellent service by staff. Nice garden and lounge. Excellent location in quiet road close to town centre.
Cons: No opportunity to make tea for oneself in bedroom or elsewhere. Plasticky feel of under-sheet.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly staff and made us feel super-welcome. Really nice location (actually perfect). This is a boutique style hotel, and not a big branded type - which made service in this case seem better and more personal. Breakfast was good - every morning the same though.
Cons: Our room was right next to the kitchen. In the mornings (early) you could be woken up. Room-door was sound-proofed. This potentially could only be a problem for this one room as it is the only room in this area, however again not too much of an issue (you want to wake up early anyways, right...:)?
9.2 Excellent
Pros: I had a fabulous stay. The reception staff were extremely helpful and forthcoming. The breakfast area was beautiful with a gorgeous veranda and gardens. The buffet was delicious with regional and organic food and the lovely lady serving coffee knew exactly what coffee I have every morning. The spacious room was very clean, quiet, and had everything I needed. I can highly recommend this hotel and will be back!
Cons: If anything, the mattress was too hard for my liking, but I guess that’s a personal preference.
7.9 Good
Pros: Close to Garmisch-Partenkirchen center ans spacious rooms. Clean rooms.
Cons: There’s no lift. If you have many bags make sure to stay at first or ground floor. Quiet old building and rooms
7.0 Good
Pros: Staff was very friendly and it was clean and very quaint! Loved the homey, cozy feel of the place
Cons: I wish there was a self serve coffee spot available throughout the day and evening; beds were not especially comfortable;
7.5 Good
Pros: Nice location.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Love the facilities which they provide, and love the breakfast as well. And the hotel had provided the transportation card to guest if you would like to look around the town.
Cons: Nope

Pros: Good location, nice breakfast
8.3 Excellent

7.9 Good
Pros: Location. Traditional Bavarian building and decor.
Cons: Nothing. But a kettle in the room would have been a big bonus.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The hotel itself is very cute and classic alpine style from the outside, the inside is full of paintings, art, hunting trophies, and winding halls with little sitting nooks and pause points. It is certainly vintage, but that is part of the charm, like staying at a wealthy uncle's mountain lodge. The pool is clear and a bit chilly, but there is a hot tub and if you sit in it just right, you get a nice view of the mountains. Sauna and wellness facilities were very clean and orderly. My room had a gorgeous view of the mountains and the woman at the front desk was kind enough to allow us into our rooms before check-in AND she upgraded us to rooms with little sitting areas and a view! Staff was helpful and friendly, sad we couldn't stay longer. Breakfast was simple but good, I really appreciated that they had hot, fresh soft-boiled eggs on the buffet and a waiter brought a fresh pot of coffee to every table. Served in a beautiful three-season room. I would love to stay here again!
Cons: Nothing really, it was a great little hotel. It is clearly old or historic, which I really appreciate, but some people might consider "outdated." I found it to be simply charming, but real turn-key locks and a sparkling clean but 80's-style bathroom don't bother me. You get to see the mountains from your window for heaven's sake!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: my review according to the my room because the hotel has three building. my room is very very nice.
Cons: un available air-condition. this point is important for visitors in summer.

Pros: The room was nice, the staff were very friendly. The location was excellent.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I enjoyed the accommodation though just 1 night, because Staffs were so kind and facilities were great to take a rest. Most of all, The building was built at 1911! I was literally suprised and There are so many traditional and antique furnitures so I could be impressed directly.

Pros: The hotel is close to the station which goes to Zugspitze. A good stay if you want to easy access to mountains.

4.6 Okay
Cons: Pretty old and therefore pretty expensive for what you actually get. Definitely needs to be renovated.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great overall - from welcome-glass of prosecco to room upgrade to cruise-ship breakfast. All was quiet, apart from the (welcome) sound of the courtyard water-feature. We were in the 'old' part and enjoyed the traditional design and furniture. Trouble with the TV control was dealt with promptly and effectively.
Cons: Didn't like having to move on!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Our stay at the hotel was amazing! Super friendly staff and super friendly to our dog. The breakfast was incredible, everyone could find something. The town was really cute and kinda modern/historic. We would definitely come back!

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Location, Location.....as well as the charm of a 500 year old building.
Cons: Our room had a bit of a musty smell to it. I need to note that friends traveling with us did not have this issue.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very friendly and helpful so that at our arrival they offered us a glass of prosecco. The accommodation is furnished in a really typical local style. Swimming pool and sauna are available for free. Amazing!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great location on the main road in the old part of the town. Very nice surrounding buildings with typical Bavarian layouts with paintings on the facade. Very friendly staff, got also a nice welcome drink to start the stay at their hotel. The parking garage is located 200m from hotel, its underground and costs 5€ for 24h paid by the parking ticket machine. You can leave the car at the entrance to transport the luggage and then park it underground. The rooms were very nice and clean, a lot of towels available. The beds were good and comfortable. The breakfast was good, you could choose what you want (self service), enough coffee and drinks. We enjoyed the stay and will choose it again if we travel to Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
Cons: There were no issues with the hotel, keep up the good work! :) There were only some road works next to the hotel and the navigation tried to navigate always to the same "closed" road, but after a little drive around found another access road that was open and got us directly to the entrance of the hotel.
9.7 Excellent
Pros: Sauna was excellent, but in the buff. Location was prime in the middle of Partenkirchen.
Cons: Everything was great
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location, very attentive staff and if nice views of the mountains
Cons: The shower, the tube and water was fine, but the shower handle was loose, the soap accessory was broken. Small details but annoying
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location with very friendly staff. Room was large, clean, with a great bathroom. The free pass to ride local buses was an unexpected and much appreciated bonus. Pictures are of street view from our window. Highly recommend,

8.0 Excellent
Pros: Location
Cons: Booked Standard Rm @ 180 Euro. Asked for quieter Rm & had to take Comfort Rm for 40 E more. On 22nd asked for 2nd night & yg man at desk quoted us 180 E in presence of his boss. At 23rd checkout lady charged us 220E for both nights. When we pointed out that the second nt was quoted @ 180 E we were told that 220 was in her computer & she could do nothing. The same boss as on the 22nd was present but failed to intervene. The price quoted at checkin should be honored at checkout!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Awesome! Very traditional German breakfast with tons of options. Eggs made to order - just ask! The dining area was very traditional ritzy German. The staff were very accommodating and nice. Quite an experience!
Cons: The hotel is older, though kept well. Looks like all the other hotels around so I guess that's normal for the area. I wish the rooms were nicer. Overall I'd say the place could use a face-lift in some areas.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great staff and very much a alpine style hotel. I loved the hotel itself the staff were a awesome bonus
7.1 Good

7.9 Good
Pros: Good location. Short distance to train station and bus stops and short walk to Garmisch center. Nice breakfast with option for warm selections. Little fine swimming pool with simple, but nice sauna area. Nice garden.
Cons: Sunday seemed to be busy; we waited quite some time our warm breakfast selection. Rooms have good standard but next time, I will specifically ask for a room facing the nice garden instead of the busy street. Bit on the expensive side.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Liked the decor and ambience
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Location, breakfast
Cons: Mattresses were worn and uncomfortable.
