Cons: It was all perfect
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Host was extremely helpful and she and her partner had a family home that was so lovingly furnished and was immensely personal. A very clean comfortable facility Breakfast was a treat and plentiful to start the day Easy drive into Chinon which is an really nice interesting town with medieval buildings and churches Good restaurants but you need to reserve with the best Plenty of chateaux to visit Lovely views of river
Cons: Very small point Perhaps a little milk with the coffee /tea in room —- we British love a cuppa tea am and pm !
9.6 Excellent
Pros: This place was the highlight of our trup to the Loire Valley. Great hosts who really couldn't do enough for us and as for those breakfasts on the terrace overlooking the river - just amazing ! I would really recommend this place.
Cons: unless you really like walking then you need a car. This is not a negative as we knew where we were staying before booking but 5km to nearest town (Chinon) and no chance of local cabs.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Domaine du Heron is an outstanding character property situated within a stones throw of the Vienne river which is overlooked from the guest balcony upon which an excellent breakfast can be served. Our ‘swallow’ bedroom is spacious, well fitted with spotlessly clean bedding, comfortable double bed, 2 basket chairs and 2 dining type chairs, tea & coffee making facilities, television and ample wardrobe space ( bring your own hangers ). The separate toilet and shower rooms are small but adequate. Some guests may prefer not to hear the periodic calls from the Herons in an evening in which case perhaps the rear facing bedroom would suit but without a river view. Will definitely stay again but probably for more than just one overnight visit.
Cons: Lack of good quality clothes hangers in the wardrobe.
10.0 Excellent

Pros: Beautiful house and grounds and our room was spacious and stylish. Breakfast was plentiful with a variety of local produce. We stayed for dinner on two evenings, enjoying delicious food cooked by the host, and it was a pleasure to share the large table with other guests and hear their travel stories. The host could not do enough to ensure our stay was good, with daily suggestions of where to visit and help to book a local restaurant. This is a very special place to stay and I would highly recommend it.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed here on two occasions, for a total of three nights on our way to and from the south. The accommodation and breakfast were excellent and we also had dinner on the night we arrived, with three courses courses plus aperitifs: it was very enjoyable with all the guests sitting round one table. Christelle was very friendly and helped us to book a table at a restaurant in Chinon. It is very conveniently located for the autoroute and the vineyards and chateaux of this section of the Loire.
Cons: Everything was fine.

Pros: Wonderful pool and hosts so helpful
Cons: All great no complaints
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The only problem is with the stairs, but you know, in the medieval buildings not all goes as you'd wish to have it. And this building comes from 1431 (if I remember correctly). Apart from it all was perfect and the couple that owns the place was really nice and helpful. Plus, they have a very good local wine at good price and speak good English. Mein Liebchen, Was Willst Du Noch Mehr?

Pros: Excellent tranquil location in a sympathetically restored ancient building. The owners were very welcoming and helpful. Lovely breakfast around a communal table. We would love to return.

Pros: Thierry and Chantal are excellent hosts, we felt very welcome, superb room and breakfast, very well located to discover the beautiful landscape and castles of the loire, we travelled with 2 young kids, the place is very children friendly and with a nice secured pool.
Cons: Nothing actually- everything was great
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed during the August bank holiday weekend and the trip was amazing from start to finish! When we got there, the hosts pointed us to local sites we should visit and gave us restaurant recommendations. They were so delightful and it was great talking to them throughout the stay :) The actual building itself is steeped in history - it felt like a fairy-tale staying there. The breakfast outside in the garden was my favourite thing. Fresh local produce in the calm and relaxing countryside. The swimming pool was an amazing addition seeing as it was 30 degrees! We loved coming back from a day exploring the Loire Valley region and having a dip before dinner.
Cons: Can't think of anything - we were so happy with our visit! Thank you for having us, I hope we'll be back soon!

Pros: Our room was large reached down some steps via the georgous garden. Breakfasts in the morning were served in the family home by our host, and were delightful. Each morning something a little different all expertly home made. Parking outside the property was easy, though we would have been able to park in the property garden, should we have needed to. Each of the two rooms were able to use the garden area for relaxing, drinking wine (or even tea!) It was so peaceful and surrounded by quaint buildings and birdsong.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The accommodation was just as the photos, and the owners were just as friendly as we had hoped. We were personally welcomed and shown round the property and rooms. The chateau is beautiful and is such a great location. We were so pleasantly surprised that the property is right next to the cycle lane 13km to Richelieu and 9km to Chinon and so flat and easy - was great to have this as 2 day trips out to visit these places easily. The pool at the hotel was great and there was a badminton net in the garden for the children and plenty of space to run around. We loved the 2 very friendly dogs and so did our children. The breakfast is fab, and coffee is amazing. We didn't eat an evening meal here, but spoke to people who had booked it and they said it was fantastic. We stayed in one of the family rooms which was great with plenty of room. I would definitely recommend this for a few days fun with day trips on the cycle path!

9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very nice hotel perfect for our overnight stop en route to the south of France. Room was very clean and tastefully decorated with very comfortable bed! Nice dinner at the bistro too when we arrived. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Would definitely recommend!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Magnificent view from rooms. Dinner was excellent, and reasonable value. Friendly and efficient staff with more than enough English spoken. All in all, a great hotel.
Cons: Motel-like accommodation block, over three floors with entrances balconies at the back and well up from the main hotel. It was not a problem for us, but would not suit anybody with even minor mobility problems. But it did provide for the most wonderful views from the front (which was probably the idea). The rooms themselves were lovely.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Amazing views. Very hospitable and helpful host/owner. We had a nice dinner on the terrace. Rooms fully equipped as expected. Short drive away from the Loire and beautiful villages and towns, so great location.
Cons: We had a family room for 4. The children loved the mezzanine sleeping area, but the room was rather cramped to get all our suitcases in and allow ourselves moving freely around. We didn't mind, and it meant great value for money, but just to be aware. Offset by a nice balcony however!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: This hotel is in a lovely location. The rooms are comfortable and the manager is a charming man. We had a family room at the top of the hotel. This has lovely views from the balcony, overlooking a large area of woodland across to the rivers. Check-in and out was easy and the manager speaks very good English if your French is a limited. The evening meal was very tasty, although a little on the expensive side when adding drinks as well.
Cons: The children's meal was a bit disappointing. Very small portion sizes and a little bland.

9.2 Excellent
Pros: An absolutely historic and charming property. Comfortable bed and remarkable breakfast with the largest croissant ever!
Cons: Personally I was absolutely enchanted with the place but it won't suit everyone. It's beautifully preserved 17th century ambience will make access difficult for some and also the toilet and shower in our room had been squeezed in and had to be squeezed into. For us it was a drawback well worth coping with.

Pros: Have stayed here several times - basic hotel but clean, very nice staff, good location and good breakfast
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is a very short walk from the city center and excellent restaurants. Our hosts were extremely kind, and helped us locate an excellent variety of eateries, as well as a nearby laundromat. We didn't know that we were supposed to reserve spots for breakfast ahead of time, but the hosts were very kind about accommodating us. I'm glad we were early for breakfast! The room was spacious for four travelers, with a comfortable queen bed and two twin beds.
Cons: Our only complaint was that the shower pan was extremely low to nonexistent, and the shower curtain only covered the shower partially, so water got all over the bathroom floor (slippery!). Otherwise, everything was great.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: We have stayed here before, so knew it would be good. Run by a very helpful and friendly couple. It is in a good location for walking into town just over the bridge. Good sized bedroom with large bathroom and very comfortable big bed. Tasty croissants for breakfast and plenty of choice. WiFi worked well and secure off road parking much appreciated. Electric fan provided as no air conditioning. No lift, but we had requested first floor !
Cons: Nothing - all good.

Pros: My husband and I booked our stay at Le Clos de Ligre so we would be close to the chateau region in the Loire Valley. It was the perfect spot to enjoy the country, beautiful accommodations in the amazing attic of a French country manor and enjoy the hospitality of our hostess Martine. We also were able to enjoy a home cooked dinner and the company of our hostess and other guests for an entertaining evening.

We never tried the swimming pool but this was popular with other guests

Overview Reviews
With a stay at La Closerie Saint Martin in Ligre, you'll be within a 10-minute drive of Domaine Charles Joguet and Domaine Dozon. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Our room was beautiful and comfortable (on ground floor) We ate four breakfasts, two dinners, and an evening picnic on premises. All were imaginative and delicious. Our hosts, Katharina and Marcel, really know their way around a kitchen. A special treat was the on premises, historic wine cellar - interesting, unique and fun. Our hosts were fluent in English, French, Swiss/German, and I suspect other languages. Our bed was very comfortable. As in most lodgings in France, a too-warm for the season duvet (and with no top sheet) was provided, but the room also was equipped with a large poly throw that replaced the duvet and made sleeping very comfortable. This B&B is actually located in Ligre`, a small farm community just south of Chinon, which I discovered after I had decided to guest there. It's about a 10 min drive into Chinon proper. We were glad to have stuck with our choice. Most days we were out and about all day, part of the time in Chinon, so we didn't miss its attractions, or the many chateau and other sights, Chateau Villandry is the star of the show for this mutli-faceted west area of the Loire river valley.
Cons: See above comment on the dread duvet.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The accommodation was perfect for us as a family. We had a great stay. The pool was spot on for the children .
7.9 Good
Pros: Good value for money. Well stocked-up kitchenette. Very comfortable and cozy rooms. Fuss-free check in even though we visited on a weekend. Check out was also delightful. Staff on site were warm and courteous.
Cons: Our room lacked a hair dryer. It might have been available on request at the reception but we checked in on a Sunday so there wasn't anyone we could ask.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: I loved this place. Peaceful, charming, clean. The staff were wonderful. Close enough to other villages and chateaus but far enough out to enjoy nature. Very Peaceful. If you prefer to stay in the restaurant was very good.
Cons: Can't think of one thing I didn't like.
4.6 Okay
Pros: Quite location
Cons: Booked hotel mainly because of pictures of restaurant and food they advertised. After booking we received email that their restaurant was full and they can’t fit an extra 2 people in. As we couldn’t cancel our booking ( was non refundable ) had to drive to the nearest town witch is 6km away . Disappointed, however food in Chinon was excellent .
5.0 Okay
Pros: The bed was comfortable and the room a decent size.
Cons: They didn’t clean our room and made out that it was our fault for leaving the ‘please clean the room’ hanger on the door! We were in room 21 which had a terrace over which room 22 had to pass (right next to our window) to get to their door. The decor is all very dark and dated and there was an odd, not very pleasant smell in the corridor throughout our stay.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Silent and comfortable room in an old mansion, part of a large domain, 10 minutes by car to Chinon medieval town.
Cons: There was no fridge in the room and we were there during the biggest heatwave the region has ever encountered over the last 40 years.
6.7 Good
Pros: Bedding clean Good location to drive to chinon to eat . 10 mins away .
Cons: Smell of damp in the hallway
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The property was charming and peaceful, and our room was spatious. Breakfast was good, and enjoyed on the restaurant terrace. The location is great, and the staff friendly and helpful
Cons: Unfortunately the restaurant was closed for the holidays when we stayed, and the restaurant in the village was not open in the evening, so we had to hop back in the car to get a meal
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Comfy room.
Cons: The shower screen didn't work so wet floor.
7.5 Good
Pros: Hotel with faded grandeur.
Cons: Breakfast was good plenty of choice. Dinner in hotel restaurant was very average. Not a vegetable in sight with my steak and boiled potatoes!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lively old building with character situated in a lovely cycle path into chinon
Cons: Nothing
7.9 Good
Pros: The hotel and grounds were lovely. The bedroom was spacious. The bed linen was really nice and the bed was very comfortable. It was generally quiet.
Cons: The building was old and a bit creaky which meant you were disturbed by people in other rooms/on other floors walking around. The restaurant was fully booked when we got there so it was a 3 mile trip to Chinon for dinner as there is nothing else in the vicinity.

Friendly English speaking staff and lovely atmosphere... Extra bonus : very efficient in room Air conditioner unit ....!!!!
Cons: Like many old buildings there is no lift and the shower grout could do with some updating .... as well as the older odd shaped tub .

Pros: Great breakfast - really wide choice . Very friendly proprietors. Nice sitting out area
Cons: Room slightly tired (eg old fashioned carpet) but bit a big deal.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location close to sights and food. Great breakfast buffet. Tina the Receptionist/manager was very helpful.
6.3 Good
Pros: Good location, reasonable value for the price, breakfast acceptable but not very exciting. Staff pleasant and service was adequate. Limited private parking but helpful if like us you have a lot of items in the car which would have been cumbersome to carry to the room from public parking. Otherwise plentiful free parking close by.
Cons: Room right next door to an air conditioning generator so quite noisy all night. Poor quality Wi-fi in the room. Air con in the room not great so the room was too hot at night. Room was somewhat tired and not well lit.
Best Western Hotel De France - Chinon - Building

8.4 Excellent (401 reviews)
Overview Reviews
We are in the heart of the medieval Vieux Chinon with an easy and direct access to the chateau by foot or car. The Best Western Hotel de France is an ideal place to discover the sweet lifestyle of the garden of France. The Best Western Hotel de France offers you a beautifully renovated, 16th century building complete with stylish, comfortable rooms with balconies overlooking the chateau and a charming square with a fountain. Inside the hotel, we welcome you with authentic charm, comfort and respect for tradition. It is said that the most beautiful French is spoken here. Certainly the language is softer; the food is more flavorsome and the wine very drinkable. We provide luggage assistance (no elevator).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great breakfast, nice view of the main square
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Great location Friendly & helpful staff Air Con Modern breakfast room & good buffet style breakfast
Cons: Secure hotel garage parking for motorcycles chargeable at €7.00 per day Please check layout before using. You will understand why I have put this comment !
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was excellent. Location was good . Had secure garage for our motorcycles.
Cons: Rooms could be a little bigger. But not a problem.
6.0 Good
Pros: Excellent location in centre of town with easy access to parking - paying - and cafes, restaurants etc. Large, comfortable room - a suite - with large bath etc.
Cons: Old building - understandably as it is in centre of old town - with difficult passages and stairs for luggage etc. No help forthcoming from staff who were, in the main, pretty uncommunicative. The rooms are expensive.
6.7 Good
Pros: Helpful staff and easy parking in a public car park a few yards away through an arch. Interesting old building with private terracing. We had a lovely breakfast. The management had thoughtfully provided a fan as we stayed during a hot spell of weather
Cons: We paid for a basic room however it was tiny ! It was difficult to squeeze round the bed to the bathroom and the bathroom door only just opened without hitting the bed. We were very pleased that we had a fan as the room was in the attic and very, very hot during the night however unfortunately it took up what little floorspace we had! To give you an idea of the size of the room, it was smaller than the Ibis that we stayed in …. and that had air con …. for about half this price. If you want to stay here go for the bigger room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was very comfortable and in the perfect location. I really enjoyed the breakfast because they offered a variety of fresh foods.
Cons: They did not offer good decaf coffee.
7.9 Good
Pros: Great location
Cons: Nothing

Pros: The ataff was very friendly and helpful.
Cons: The wifi stopped at least three times during the two days we stayed at the hotel. I would not return to this hotel for this one reason.

7.1 Good
Pros: Stunning building lovely room
Cons: Check in at 4pm, bar was not open until 6pm - tea or coffee was also not available during this time, poor mini bar stock and no tea or coffee machine in room - not acceptable bearing in mind supposed top class chateau and room price paid.
5.8 Okay
Pros: It was quaint.
Cons: Poor menu choice. Poor Wi-fi. No makings allowed in the room. Bar was very poor with little choice.
9.6 Excellent
Cons: We thought the breakfast was under par for a 4 star hotel
7.1 Good
Pros: The old feeling of a historic Château. Very quiet location.
Cons: I found breakfast disappointing. Cereal had no taste and bread didn’t have a fresh taste that you expect in France. Saying that many of the breakfast we had on this trip were similar. We had a very big bedroom with a big bathroom on one side and WC on the other with a tiny door to squeeze through. Lots of walking in the night
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Lovely room. Beautiful views
Cons: The menu was very limited
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The chatueau is lovely and has all amenities including a pool and tennis courts. The staff is amazing and works very hard to please. They arranged for two private day tours for us; they were great.
Cons: Would have been nice to have a simple lunch and dinner instead of only a multi-course meal at dinner. But this is a minor issue and only a suggestion.
7.5 Good
Pros: Beautiful Château, nice salon. Good breakfast, spacious room with a comfortable bed.
Cons: The restaurant was smart and service attentive, but the meal was disappointing and quite expensive. The decoration in the main building was tired
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Nice breakfast. Very peaceful.
Cons: The WiFi was not very good. Could do with a high up shower attachment in the bath.
7.5 Good
Pros: It's a remarkable looking place, and wonderful to watch all of the birds such as swifts nesting within the walls and playing above. Quite a relaxed pace within.
Cons: Restaurant was not great at keeping up with service. The situation was exacerbated (apparently) by the sudden influx of guests presenting themselves for dinner. Nevertheless I could see several tables not even being kept hydrated for a long time. The manager seemed to accept this and it was suggested to him that guests are at least kept apprised of delays and looked after while they waited during possible similar events in future.
Belle Epoque - Chinon - Building

8.2 Excellent (195 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located in Chinon, Belle Epoque is within a 5-minute drive of Domaine Couly-Dutheil and Maison de la Riviere. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Lovely breakfast with spanking fresh croissants and bread and everythig you could want to eat. Great welcome from the proprietors who were extremely helpful. Very comfy bed. Everything worked.
Cons: It didn't bother us but there is no lift and the antique stairs are a bit challenging. We'd specify a first-floor room next time.
7.9 Good
Pros: The bed was comfortable and that is always important to me, having fibromyalgia. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Quite secure parking.
Cons: The power plug was under the desk in a difficult spot to access as an older person and I needed to charge my e devices. Our room was on the second floor up narrow, winding, steep stairs.
7.1 Good
Cons: No curtains to cut out light. En suite very tired. Like the rest of the hotel.
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: The parking lot and location.
Cons: The Belle Epoque is anything but "belle". Room was extremely small, no elevator and stairs are very narrow and steep.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Good location - 10 minutes walk from centre of Chinon. Good secure car park handy for car full of holiday things in transit.
7.9 Good
Pros: Very helpful hosts, cafe on site, spacious room(by comparison with similar hotels) and good secure bike storage..
Cons: 15 min walk to "Old" town, earlier access to rooms would have been nice.
7.9 Good
Pros: The hotel is close to the railway station. The room was small but had everything we needed for a quick stay. The staff were great and looked after our luggage until we were ready to get the train. The room and bathroom were clean.
Cons: The beds could have been more comfortable. The street is noisy with motorbikes going past late into the night. The breakfast was a little too simple for the price and because it is only a small hotel some of the less popular breakfast items (ham) were not as fresh as they could have been. The hotel is a little far from the centre of town with its sights and restaurants. The hotel is in the modern part of town rather than in the romantic medieval old streets in the centre. We paid double the standard price shown on the back of the room door. The room was hot so a ceiling fan would have been better than the noisy small fan.
