I liked everything. It was too good experience. I will definitely recommend HI Chicago to all
There was only one toilet between a lot of private rooms. It was not busy and we did not had a problem however if it was busy I could see it being a problem.
Nice place, quiet and it felt safe and clean.
There's a train nearby, can't do anything about that though! It's city living.
The location is superb.
Cleanliness was in general ok, although the carpet in the rooms looked dirty and old... the linen and towels could use replacement also. Breakfast was kind of incomplete (they don't refill anything that's finished). Staff was nice and helpful in general. We normally stay in HI hostels when traveling because they are great value for money, but maybe for Chicago there can be better hostel options than this one.
Location couldn't be better. The facilities are great too, especially the common areas. The dorms are very simple, but large and kept clean, as well as the shared bathrooms. I loved the breakfast too, lots of variety. Great value!
The one thing that put me off in this hostel was that I bought a ticket for the Art Institute of Chicago at reception where they told me I would get a small discount. When I got to the museum, I found that I had paid like $8 more at the hostel compared to the ticket office. I didn't use the ticket and asked for my money back, they said at first they couldn't refund and that this ticket was more expensive because it was a "fast pass", one you can skip the line with. They never mentioned it when I bought the ticket, I just wanted a regular one, so I felt a bit scammed. They refunded me eventually. So just watch out if you decide to buy tickets at reception, try to find out what they cost at the ticket office first.
