Because some of the roads in the town and other urban areas can be quite narrow, smaller, more compact vehicles are usually easier to navigate and easier to find parking for. Outside of that, the roads in the country are in good condition, well maintained and wide enough to accommodate most vehicles. If you're planning on driving around and exploring the country, consider getting an SUV or larger sedan, exploring Rovinj on foot while saving the vehicle for long-distance travel.
