False advertisement, I did not like and enjoy my staying.
First I want to mention that i booked a room that was advertised with a balcony and due to the balcony and the street/mountain view the room was extra money only to come to the hotel and to be told that everyone is sharing a balcony and that's how you get to the rooms .When i said to the receptionist that it's false advertisement, she pretended that she doesn't understand and taking me as a fool she said that we have a balcony (the common one ) .I am not happy at all with my staying and the night before I stayed in a hostel just cross the street and instead of payn 60€ (which was how much the room was for this hotel for one night ) was 20€ a night and the room came with a kitchen aswell fully equipped with microwave, cooker , fridge which was the most missed in the "fancy Drachenhaus",toaster and a thermostat to control the room temperature. I don't think its fair to charge triple for worse room ,services and many more .The cherry on top was when we left we had to pay a city fee that we were never made aware before ,in the other hotel they didn't say or charged us extra at the end for any "city fees" that when I question the reception about what's the fee for the only thing she said was everyone has to pay and then she turned her back .I wouldn't come back to this hotel and i will call it Ripoffhaus.
Superb location. Spacious and well appointed rooms. Great breakfast. The shower had great temperature and pressure range. Importantly, the staff responded quickly to our two concerns about the room (the bed was much too firm, and they responded as requested by adding some extra padding), and they also addressed the drain in our shower (keep in mind that at the shower’s full blast it is like a fire hydrant! That’s great pressure but few drains can accommodate that; turn the pressure down and you’ll get adequate drain flow if you prefer). The majority of the staff here are great, makes a 3 star feel like a 5 star. After staying here, I’d make this my first choice for accommodation on a return visit.
Check in staff was unfriendly to a degree that bordered on unprofessional. Arrived ~8 pm. I tried to ask in several ways about the parking situation (I didn’t expect the hotel to provide parking, they don’t advertise that they do but they DO advertise that parking is available nearby. so I was looking for guidance). She was very dismissive (“oh yeah, you’re fine there..” “ok do we need to pay? the signs on the street say we have to pay.” “Just do it some time tomorrow “ ) and this went on vaguely, and I was left uncertain, so we woke early to deal with parking, and learned what to do from the nearby shopkeepers, who were more thorough and kind in their explanations. Also, as we were checking in I noticed they had a cellar attached to reception, and I asked if I might buy a bottle for our room. I was very gruffly told that yes I could purchase SOMETHING but not everything was for sale. Ok. Long story short I still bought a bottle from them, but so grudgingly offered and sold I shouldn’t have, money would have been better appreciated at the vinoteca around the corner. Following the initial bad reception we had two interactions with the front desk during the next days. Both great, but both over 24 hours with the same lady. She says the receptionists work 24 hour shifts? That may explain our initial experience. No staff, especially reception, should work 24 hours. Perhaps I misunderstood because of language differences? I would like very much to hear a response from the hotel here. The only other item of complaint is the overly firm mattress. Of course mattress firmness is a personal preference. However this bordered on wooden plank firmness level. Even my husband, who chooses the 10/10 firmness level when mattress shopping admitted to being stiff on the third morning. I noticed it to them on the first morning and they added extra padding for us. If I’d mentioned it again I believe they would have tried to further accommodate.
Great location. Good rooms.
The Restaurant is a joke. Asked for a hamburger without cheese and was told that the “chef”’could not change the the recipe. Hmm, last time I checked a cheeseburger has cheese and a hamburger hasn’t. Also, how difficult can it be not to put cheese on a hamburger?
