This hotel is located in Friedrichshain, an area in the former East Berlin. Since my daughter lives here, we wanted a hotel that was near her. The area is VERY lively, with restaurants (many middle eastern and reasonably priced) at every third storefront. If you are looking for fancy, cosmopoliton Berlin, this is the wrong place. If, however, you want to see how a part of the former East Germany has developed into a thriving, artistic, inclusive neighborhood, this is a great place to stay. There are so many forms of public transportation available (S-Bahn, U-Bahn, streetcars, busses) that you can reach any desired destination. Our rooms (we stayed here twice) were clean, quiet and comfortable with everything you could need. The breakfast was enormous - it's hard to curb your eating! The people behind the desk were friendly and helpful. These are the things that I need in a hotel. If you stay here, make sure to wander down to the East Side Gallery (this is the German name for it, too), which is a large section of the Berlin Wall now used as an ever-changing outdoor gallery of "wall" art. This includes the iconic painting depicting Leonid Brezhnev kissing Erich Honecker (see picture below).
It was really enyojable stay. Room was as big as they presented on photo. Staff was helpful. Everything was clean. I can only recommended this hotel for people who are looking comfortable and not expensive accomodation in Berlin.
Bathroom can be little bigger but it was really clean. Breakfasts can be little bit more varied.
Having already stayed at the Zarenhof at Prenzlauer Berg last year, I already knew what service, standards and quality I would receive here. All the staff are exceptional, polite and very helpful. Room was spacious and very clean, their beds are of a very good quality as are all their fittings. I stayed in room 2 on the ground floor, two large windows facing into a very typical Berlin inner courtyard, while the streets can be busy outside, the inner courtyard was always quiet. If you turn right on leaving the hotel, within 40m you will find a great choice of restaurants serving incredible foods from all over the world, including a very good German restaurant on the corner. There are also lots of small shops close by selling groceries and beer as the hotel has no bar as such, remember most shops close on a Sunday in Germany, even the small ones. The hotel is about a 2 minute walk from Frankfurter Tor subway station. For what I paid for two nights, it was excellent value for money, will stay here again for sure.
Nothing, every thing was ideal
Comfort, cleanliness and great breakfast
It was good - but i loonged for more vegan options -
