Pros: Staff was very helpful, place was clean, well located across the street from the Driskill and at the start of dirty sixth. Pretty easy to get around with walking, bus or taxi. Overall I would strongly recommend this place for single travelers looking for a hostel experience in Austin, cant imagine they will find anything better
Cons: Would be nice if there were drapes that covered the bed like I have had at other hostels and power outlets next to each bed so when you are on the top bunk it's easier to charge your phone. Also, the lockers could be a tiny bit bigger, not that they were small, but my bag was a regular airline bag and if the locker was just a tiny bit bigger I could have fit the entire thing in there (thats what she said)
Located in West Campus, this hostel is within 1 mile (2 km) of University of Texas Tower, University of Texas at Austin and Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum. Texas State Capitol and Frank Erwin Center are also within 2 miles (3 km).

Pros: Basically everything. The facilities themselves aren’t ASTOUNDING but I’ve definitely had much worse. The staff was INCREDIBLE. Almost immediately felt like I was staying with close friends or family and not at a hostel. The atmosphere was great and everything was kept clean. And it’s lovated right in the heart of Austin. Walking distance to Kerby Lane and Torchy’s Tacos. I highly recommend both! Thanks again for the hospitality guys!
Cons: Squatting in the shower so the water would hit my head!

Pros: Whether you are staying one night or one month, Drifter Jacks is the most affordable and comfortable place you can stay! Perfect for solo travelers and groups, the location is close enough to attractions and sits right on a major bus route. I stayed for a week and was comfortable the entire trip. Ethan and Jaime were especially wonderful hosts, however the entire staff was friendly and courteous. Coffee and tea were available 24 hours and breakfast was available every morning which was a huge bonus, especially since the nightly rate was so low! Can't wait to stay again, I will be recommending Drifter Jack's to all my friends traveling to Austin!

Austin has a burgeoning hostel scene, and staying in a hostel here can be a great way of getting to know the city. Not only will it help you to save money, but it will help you to meet fellow travelers, to live at the heart of a trendy neighborhood, to chat with locals, and to experience first-hand some of the creative influence that makes Austin so unique. From restored buildings to environmentally friendly concepts to standout murals, almost every hostel in Austin is making its mark in an individual way.
While there are hostels spread all over Austin, several are concentrated in the neighborhoods of East Cesar Chavez and East Austin. Both neighborhoods have the advantage of being within a few blocks’ walk of downtown, but each has its own fair share of shops, restaurants, and bars. East Austin especially is known for its nightlife and inexpensive eats, while staying in a hostel in East Cesar Chavez will put active travelers within easy reach of the Colorado River.
Hostels are generally a great way for solo travelers to get an inexpensive bed and meet fellow guests, but a couple of hostels in Austin really stand out. Drifter Jack’s Hostel and Native Hostel Austin are both very popular among solo travelers for their relaxed, friendly vibes and spacious lounge areas. The latter also hosts regular live music nights in the bar, but offers a bit of in-room privacy with its bed curtains and individual wall outlets beside each bunk bed.
A great hostel in Austin for couples is Native Hostel Austin, which is one of the few properties to also offer private double rooms. In addition to a king bed and sitting area, these rooms come with private bathrooms. Firehouse Hostel is another option for couples looking for privacy: their suites are furnished with one queen and one bunk bed, meaning that couples with children can also stay here comfortably.
