The view and the heaters were great
There was noise from the roof all night that kept us awake ALL night. We paid expensively for the room for 2 nights. We felt there should have been a monetry recompense of some kind but this was never offered. We would not recommend the esplanade as we paid dearly with no sleep.
The location is fantastic
The amenities cabinet is very unpractical, The shelve with the amenities collapsed when touched and the electrical cord of the kettle couldn't reach the power socket. We had to put the kettle on the floor to boil water. The breakfast selection is very limited and the there was no hot water for coffee. I had to order coffee from the bar.
Tired building, awful staff/service and no breakfast (even though pre-ordered) as apparently the eggs/bacon weren't delivered. Seemed very strange as the breakfast menu had many other options, and there was an open supermarket round the corner where they could've picked up extra food. Then we I asked for a refund for my breakfast (the rate with or without breakfast was very clear), the manager initially refused to refund it. When eventually he agreed after a heated argument, he then tried to charge me the credit card fee twice. Was a horrible start to the day.
Below expectations, location excellent though
Breakfast on the second morning of our stay was cancelled!! The claimed was 'the eggs and bacon" have not yet been delivered"....HELLO, there was an open supermarket in the adjacent street where such products could have been purchased. I have heard of a pub with no beer but this is the first time a pub with no food. Initially there was strong resistance from staff to refund the cost of breakfast component of our room rate....finally, after 24 hours, it was finally credited to my credit card. Overall this hotel needs to lift its game BIG TIME!! The first morning the desk staff was dressed in what appeared to be pyjamas....shame really as the location alone makes this hotel a desirable place to stay. I was told the owner lives overseas, perhaps this contributes to the problems...lets hope things improve soon.
The breakfast and the morning staff were good.
The man who greeted us was rude, impatient and tried to add extra fees which were not included in the online booking we made. We had a cold shower which when we questioned it, the staff said it had been like that for a while. That would have been nice to know. We booked for three people but got a room with only two beds. As a result, only two breakfasts were included and the third had to be paid for.
