The location is fantastic, with great views from the balcony. There are lots of long walks to undertake along the coast. Also the town centre and old docks are lovely to walk around and explore.
Our room was a nice size and spotlessly clean, but the general décor is a little tired looking. This goes throughout the hotel. What was really bad though was the breakfast. Breakfast timings were from 07:00 until 10:00, but at 08:15 nearly everything was gone. No bread rolls or toast, no eggs, limited coffee (felt like it was being rationed). Many guest were complaining but were ignored by the staff. At 08:45 all that was left was jam, some sliced meat and a few sad looking pieces of fruit.
Great location. Right next to the beach. I was overcharged on my hotel bill, but it was immediately corrected without hassle.
The staff seemed to be either overworked or untrained. They were not particularly friendly and were disorganised, especially during breakfast. Crockery sometimes dirty. A mouldy peach was simply left lying on a buffet table after it had been brought the notice of breakfast staff. A constant plague of drain flies in the bathroom. Sink and shower only surface-cleaned. Drains are dirty! Towels old and thin. They need replacing. Large unsightly dark stain in the bottom of the toilet bowl. 8€ daily charge for parking. Parking on the hotel car park was chaotic and disorderly. WiFi inadequate, only worked sometimes. Difficult to understand why this facility is classified as a four-star hotel.
The breakfast was ok.
It felt like a hotel for old people. . We was told that we had been upgrated to a better room with a fireplace but the fireplace (fake of course) did`t work and we had to sleep in a bedsofa so it felt that the room was some kind of meeting room but they lied and said it was a upgrade. The room was very warn and no air-condition. They didn't informed about the relax and spa area and I did`t see anything about that in the hotel.
We chose the hotel for its location - view of water. Breakfast was outstanding (as it always is in good German hotels). It I a somewhat older luxury hotel - perhaps a bit stodgy, but very comfortable (except for the elevator in a far corner of the building). Free parking across the street (at least at our time of year - May) is a bonus. The hotel is on the water's edge of a large residential area - no restaurants or stores within miles, except for a discount grocery store. A place to have a few quiet days.
There were very few other guests when we stayed there in May - a bit eerie.
Breakfast was wonderful, we had two units to accommodate my family that are separated from the main building. The car can be parked right in front of our units for a cost of 8EUR per day. But if you don't want to spend extra, there is a quite large free parking area just across the road.
I initially thought that staying at this hotel that is located by the beach will offer a chance for my children to play and swim at the beach. But the beach is horribly dirty, so the kids decided to go somewhere else in Wismar.
With a stay at Phoenix Hotel Seeblick in Wismar (Nordwestmecklenburg), you'll be a 1-minute drive from Windorf Beach and 5 minutes from University of Wismar. Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby and coffee/tea in a common area. This hotel has 2 meeting rooms available for events. Self parking (subject to charges) is available onsite.
