It's not your typical hostel, as it is also a hotel (The Ritz Village). There is a Jacuzzi as well as a pool, which makes it really comfortable to cool down during the hot days (31/32°C). The hostel is also only a few minutes away from the Punda bus station as well as the Punda district itself. With the bus, you can reach some of the beaches quite easy.
There a 2 little kitchens, in which you can't really cook pasta or other warm dishes as there is no oven / stove. So simple meals were you use hot water or the microwave works fine. I also didn't like the seating area; on the ground were only 2 tables (no windows, access room) and on the top floor next to the Jacuzzi the lightening was too dark.
Very helpful and friendly bar staff! Walking distance to the movies and banks. I lucked out and got the hostel room to myself my entire stay. Big plus!!!
I was looking forward to using the jacuzzi. They do have one.But they say it’s some sort of solar powered, so it was never hot. Not even lukewarm! Same for the showers. But considering how hot it was cold shower wasn’t as bad as I’d expect it. Just took some getting used to. But the cold jacuzzi was extremely disappointing. Since that’s why I mainly picked them. Taxis are expensive everywhere. So definitely recommend renting a car. Buses were cheap but not reliable!
The staff was wonderful! Very helpful and friendly.
There was a lot of construction work going on. A lot of drilling noises. Not something I would expect on my holiday in the Carribean.
It’s close enough to walk to the centre but seeing as it’s dark early, it’s not close enough to walk anywhere alone.
The rooms are mediocre at most which is to be expected from the pictures. The location isn’t great, but manageable. The staff weren’t as helpful as I had read. They seemed a bit uninterested.
The staff are very friendly and helpful
Unfortunately, the people in the neighboring room were incredibly noisy. In spite of the night staff intervening at 3am to ask them to be quiet, I had a poor night's sleep. This was not the fault of the night staff who were incredibly helpful. It was just unfortunate that some guests are not considerate.
