Shower in a bath wit nowhere to hang the shower head
The location of the hotel is ideal for discovering the beatifull city of Valkenburg. The reception and breakfast was good. The staff was friendly. For 11€ per day extra, the car could be parked on a closed yard not too far.
The room however was very small. The bathroom was realy tiny and not practical. The shower had a curtain (!) which was not very clean and, although the tiled floor was ice cold, there was not mat available. One of the lamps next to the bed had a stain (looked like blood!) and the mattresses kept sliding off the bed.
The pool area was very nice to have in winter for our daughter. Rooms were a good size. Communication was good before arriving and check in/check out was easy. The breakfast was also tasty with lots of options.
The room was quite outdated and smelled pretty moldy. We could open the window but otherwise I don’t think there were any vents in the room or bathroom. Just didn’t feel like good value for the money. The choices by management on what all to charge for is also baffling. 11€/night for parking even though in front of the hotel it’s free from 8pm to 11am, so if you’re just staying one night there’s no point in going to their parking lot and paying. It’s also 2€/pool towel which the cleaning staff took even though they were hanging up and not on the floor (so would have had to repay each day for a pool towel?), 5€/night for a kids cot, in the bar at Happy Hour if you didn’t specify that you were ordering a happy hour drink then you didn’t get the right one/right price and they wouldn’t fix it, it cost money to use the Sauna, etc. Fine if all these prices are published but still seems a little extreme considering the price per night in December for the older quality of the hotel. And unfortunate how some of these are dealt with like the pool towels and drinks. Just made the stay a little unpleasant and felt like not really nice customer service.
The location of the hotel was great. The staff were welcoming when we arrived. We were able to park at the hotel. Despite being very close to the town centre it was quite and live music in the bar/public area on several nights in the week, the room was well soundproofed and quiet.
We had what the hotel described as a budget room, mean is what I would call it. There was a huge bed in the room, with bedside tables, one chair and a hanging space inside the door. There was a shelf that left only a few inches to get round. This meant that on the first night you walked into the shelf when accessing the bathroom. The bathroom was tiny and had one small bar of soap and one small bottle of shower gel. nothing was replenished. On the final night we had no shower gel left, so went to reception and asked for more. I was given some, but firstly I was asked to wait until room service came in the morning. I pointed out that as it was our final night I couldn't wait! There was a kettle, two mugs and tea/coffee on the dangerous shelf. However, none of this was cleaned. If you weren't prepared to wash the cups yourself, you could go to reception and get clean ones..... For over £100 per night, without breakfast or parking, this was not good value for money.
