Pros: Stephen and Jackie were extremely helpful and know Swellendam, it's history and the surrounding area well, they are able to give useful advice on where to go and what to do. They have a beautiful relaxing garden complete with swimming pool. We needed more than one night there to do justice to their amazing breakfast.

Cons: Pool. Too dark more like a large fish pond
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The natural swimming pool was amazing to swim in and wonderful to just sit and look at
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Loved the room and the gardens and the eco pool were spectacular. Lovely glass of lemonade on our arrival and shortbread in the room was delicious. The glass of wine before dinner was a nice touch. We only stayed one night but enjoyed the breakfast, once served, before our departure. Very kind of Stephen and Jackie to suggest the best routes for us to travel both to the Hideaway and our next accommodation.
Cons: Sadly I found the hostess style to be slightly too orderly for me. I felt that Stephen and Jackie's style needed softening especially bearing in mind that we were a one night only stay. There is obviously a set pattern that they follow for all guests but I felt this needed adapting depending on guests lengths of stay. Stephen and Jackie were very condescending when we said we were going to Hermanus - why on earth would we want to go there! Well to answer ... because we wanted to. I personally didn't need such a long and intensive talk on arrival or such a lengthy description of the breakfast the following morning. I felt that perhaps listening skills needed improvement - like another guest we were given the run down on the room and immediately said we would not be using the TV, however, Stephen did still continue to tell us which buttons to press and told us not to press others as it would take hours to put right! In my opinion Stephen and Jackie have a beautiful accommodation with great facilities but I think a less structured and more casual way with guests might make people feel more comfortable.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: a really wonderful stay with Stephen and Jackie at their delightful guest lodge 'The Hideaway'. Beautiful accommodation, very special pool area and general ambience of the place. Swellendam also lovely - quiet but many great places to eat. Best of all place to eat - breakfast at the Hideaway - truly special!!

Pros: A lovely place! A historic building, redone with an eye for detail, antique furniture, quaint little things, tastefully decorated. Spacious bedroom and reasonably spacious bathroom. Squeaky clean. Nice soaps and lotions. Excellent breakfast with fresh fruit, eggs any style. Beautiful garden and nice swimming pool even if we did not use it because of the season. Secure parking in the back. Good host. Excellent value.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed for one night in what used to be the horse stables. What a beautiful and spacious room for our family of four! It was my favorite accommodation of our two week trip through the Garden Route. Parking was secure. The owner was friendly and knowledgeable and breakfast was delicious- made to order eggs and bacon, fruits, granola, bread, etc. The home and grounds are beautiful (they date back to 1796 I believe), and the resident yellow lab, Daniel, and his two kitty friends were the highlight for my 6 and 7 year olds! Would definitely recommend Cypress Cottage!
Cons: Everything was amazing! Zero complaints!

10.0 Excellent
Pros: We received such a warm welcome on arrival from Richard and Daniel, a beautiful labrador. Richard was full of suggestions for things to do and places to eat. Cypress Cottage built in 1796 oozes old world charm - the spacious rooms are tastefully decorated and furnished, but are supplied with all mod cons such as tea-making facilities and a hairdryer. Breakfast, prepared to order, was plentiful and delicious.
Cons: No complaints at all

7.5 Good
Pros: Breakfast was amazing!! They also made us a lovely lunch platter as we wanted something light and didn't want to go out. Bathroom amenities were very good and we also loved the waterbed.
Cons: We were disappointed that the restaurant was closed for dinner. We specifically chose the establishment only for this reason. The on-site restaurant is advertised as part of the facilities and it shows open all year round. They should inform the guests if its closed for winter or not operating. But we opted for a take away pizza and enjoyed it by the fire:)

Pros: What an absolute gem of a spot, we couldn’t have been any happier. We were upgraded to the most divine little house, which had everything and more that we could have asked for, we arrived to a heated room, with all the add ons, fire place, port, cupcakes, electric blankets and extra heaters. the staff went over and above, waking up to a freshly cleaned car, we missed breakfast as we decided we wanted to spend every last moment in our little piece of heaven, Renata made it possible for us to do an early check in as we had a family funeral in Stilbaai, and she made sure we had a patkos for the road, a warm loaf and banana bread cup cakes

Pros: We have had a wonderful, relaxed stay at Langeberg Guest Lodge. The cottages are very large and clean, they are spearated from the main house. The bathroom is also large, clean and comfortable. There is mural painting in cottages and main house, which is excellent. It shows the attention to detail. Breakfast was the most delicious we have had in SA (fresh fruits, tasty coffee, muffins...) Michael made great scrambled eggs. Highly recommendation! We would stay there again.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Hosts made an extra effort to accommodate us for the Double Century Cycle event. A 4h45 breakfast was not too much effort for them. That was very much appreciated by the entire team.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was really good and of a high standard.
Cons: A door between the bedroom and en-suite bathroom would have been preferable to the curtain.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We experienced the kindest welcome we have ever had when the owners responded to our request for help. A map to the property, drawn by a friend, proved to be inaccurate and they drove out to our location and guided us to the B&B. Seeing that we were under stress they abandoned the check-in and took us straight to our room. Then they volunteered to organise a take-away from one of the local restaurants, which they duly served at a beautifully dressed table on the verandah. This wonderful act of kindness set the standard for the rest of our stay.

Pros: A wonderful place, I think the best hotel that we had on our trip. The hostess was extremely nice and thoughtful, e very detail in the house was fitting, from the beautiful furniture to wonderfully comfortable bed to the well-groomed garden . The breakfast was delicious, home— baked bread, different types of fruit every day and anything you can think of, everything healthy and mouth-watering. We were sad, we only stayed for three nights. You can make lovely trips to the beach, De Hoop Nature Reserve, and find lots of good restaurants for your dinner at night.

Pros: Everything. The owners are wonderfully helpful and they and the staff so friendly. The house itself is very interesting and the furnishing extrembly comfortable. The accommodation is spotlessly clean; the common areas very comfortable; coffee, tea and cookies/cakes as much as you want. Truly a very special place to stay. Will not hesitate to rebook when we return to South Africa

Pros: We loved everything! The rooms are amazing - so much space and with every comfort one could want. The fireplace is lit in the evenings and it's just such a wonderful space to be in. The main building is beautiful and very inviting. The conservatory where meals are served is so light and gorgeous. The staff were all fantastic and what a lovely treat of having our car washed before departure. They also arranged for us to have massages at the nearby Rain Spa, and booked us dinner at a restaurant close to the hotel. One night wasn't enough to get to enjoy all it had to offer.

Pros: The breakfast is excellent. The room is cozy. All the staff are kind and helpful. Thanks for Kenosia for arranging a delicious dinner for us. Though the weather is a bit cold, but the room is warm. The beds were all warmed prior to our arrival. The fit out and decoration are both filled up with love and elegance. My two kids enjoy staying on the loft so much that they don't even want to leave. I definitely recommend this hotel.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was amazing. The property is beautiful. The staff are super friendly and helpful. I will definately return in the future.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The only way to describe this 5 star accommodation is with 5 stars! All staff were eager to please. Our initial booking emails were met with congenial, accommodating responses to every request. Our welcome on arrival and interactions with the staff Fidiney & Ian and others were genuine and an array of afternoon tea and assortment of complimentary snacks was pleasant. Our dinner and breakfast in the conservatory was delicious. The rooms were spacious and bed comfortable with the fire lit during dinner it was also very cosy. On departure we discovered our car had been washed. The little details made this place homely and special. If we are ever in the area again we would stay here and we highly recommend it to anyone looking for accommodation in the area.
Cons: Not much! The shower tap was a bit finnicky, but hey, that's nitpicking.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Delightful energetic welcome. Lovely large rooms with incredible mountain views and caffetiere in the room. Excellent breakfast. Nice gardens and pool. In a peaceful and safe neighbourhood. This was intended to be just an overnight stay point on our garden route travels, but turned out to be a fab place in itself. We should have stayed longer!
Cons: Nothing not to like.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very kind, attentive and welcoming staff. Comfortable room with balcony to the mountains and beautiful garden. Great breakfast.
Cons: We had an upstairs room that is accessible via stairs from the outside parking area to the balcony. We felt a bit unsafe at night since the door had a simple look, and there were no additional safety measures. For comparison, the guesthouse has an on-site parking area with electrical fences on the other side and the main entrance has an iron bar security gate. We recommend an upgrade to make people using this room feel safe.

Pros: Very lovely rooms and facilities! Would have loved to stay a couple of days to relax! Everything you need is offered, just a little hard to find since it is really up hill but therefore you have hot a nice view! Would come back again!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The 3 bedroom cottage was excellent. We had a great evening meal on the braai. What was disappointing is we turned up expecting a pool and promised our children that they could go for a swim but they are in the process of building a bigger one and the current very small pool was closed. The cottage was great and will be a nice place to stay when the pool is finished.
7.9 Good
Pros: Staff is friendly, room was comfortable, kitchen was well equipped, location is safe and at a nice distance from the national park. I went walking straight out of the B&B gate to the park and that was great. Reception gave me a map and lots of tips what to do in Swellendam, which was super helpful!
Cons: I didn't have any views from my room; I chose the place largely because it seemed to have amazing views judging by the photos of the B&B, so was a bit disappointed not having any of that. Nor did I find if there were communal lounges where to hang out (which I was hoping for and thought I saw in photos!). The room was cold despite the radiator on the wall (maybe an a/c with heating would be nice).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Jane thank you for the warm friendly welcome, you made us feel at home from the time we arrived. The property was stunning and the attention to detail in the room was well appreciated, we loved all the small touches. We were so sad to leave but we promise to return. Thank you Hilltop Retreat for an amazing experience.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It’s very clean and nice place the staff was very helpful and kind. And we like the unique facility you have the bed heater especially in winter
Cons: The isolation of sound so weak any simple noises can be heard. Otherwise everything perfect
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was soo homey and it smelt amazing. And the garden was beautiful.
Cons: Nothing. Everything was up to standard and beautiful
9.6 Excellent
Pros: We liked the decor and the attention to detail. Fire wood and lighters for the braai. Complimentary sherry in the room. Serviced daily. Comfortable beds. Secure parking and enough parking on property.
Cons: The acoustics between rooms could be improved although this did not cause a problem during our stay.
6.3 Good
Pros: Nothing... As the room we were given it wasn't very private.... Not what I seen on the photos when booking... Had a wooden garden bench in the room to sit on.... Very uncomfortable...
Cons: Rustic look for something that was rated luxury...
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Stylish interior design, amazing staff, great location
