Andrew and Brian were both helpful professional and nice to deal with.
Overall was a fun stay
- I liked the curtains on the beds - it gave me the extra sense of privacy; - Comfortable sleeping area with personal lamps for reading, convenient bedside shelf, safe locked drawer for your personal stuff; - Very clean showers and toilets; - Friendly and helpful staff; - Nice kitchen with all the appliances you need for cooking + free coffee and tea.
- I didn't like the fact that you can't use the roof terrace after 6pm - when the bar opens. When I booked the hostel I was under the impression that it comes with a terrace - it's always nice in hostels to have a common place like that where after a long day of sightseeing you can bring your own dinner and wine and just chill. But after 6pm it just becomes a regular bar - not part of the hostel, so you have to eat your dinner in your bed, because there is no other common place apart from that terrace. - I also thought the air conditioner made the room too cold at night, I had to wear everything I had while sleeping just to stay warm
Alessandro was friendly and helpful The location was good - near bars, sights and the bus stop The hostel was clean and beds were comfortable enough and had power points, lights and curtains The balcony was cool
Two bad customer service experiences: I initially emailed to ask if it was possible to check in late - as my flight was arriving after 11pm - and someone called Bryan emailed me to say he would only give me information if I booked. Why would I book a hostel I wasn't sure I could check into in the first place? I persevered and thankfully a friendly man called Alessandro replied and was helpful. After checking in I had another bad customer service experience with an Australian woman I think - surprisingly - was the manager. I booked a tour to the Blue Lagoon and wanted to ask if there was sunscreen I could use and two other guests beat me to it. They were told no. I suggested - not in a rude way - that this really should be provided (for health and safety reasons, and it is standard in hostels I have stayed in in dozens of other countries for trips like this including one I used to manage). I received a very rude and aggressive reply asking if I brought my mum with me, and that 'this is Malta and that's not how it's done here'. I was quite surprised by this immature and unhelpful response. Maybe she was having a bad day. Ironically, the guy who ran the tour (a friendly Aussie called Sean) did have some with him after all.
The hostel is really great! Great roof top to meet people, fair prices for drinks in the bar and always something going on. Staff superb (especially Shaun who is always funny as are the tours to Comino and Gozo with him)! Rooms have AC, every bed a curtain, socket and light, quiet. Very secure with the lockers for every bed that you can open with the key chip for the doors. Easy check in and nice welcome with Andrew. Really centrally located and many bars, restaurants around. Had a great stay and would go there again - fun place with a good vibe especially for solo travellers!
Unfortunately, there was no soap in the toilets during the whole week (although I mentioned it twice) which should be standard. Also kitchen sponge could be exchanged more often.
Comfy beds, Everyone from staff was super nice and helpfull. bathrooms were clean. If you're solo traveler that's a perfect place to stay. Perfect location, bus station just outside the hostel. Each bunk bed have curtain, lamp and 2 electric sockets. They organise events and trips so of you don't have your trip planned that would help. And there is friendly dogo! ( I literally fell in love) Really enjoyed my stay, and met many awesome people. HIGLY RECOMMEND!
