It's located close to a large number of attractions, and considering it's so close to the city centre it's surprisingly quiet. This, along with the reasonable rates, makes up for its lack of charm.
The whole place needs a deep and thorough clean, and some maintenance. Some of the staff/owners also need to perhaps brush up on their customer service skills.
Nothing.no drinking water hot or cold,no hot water in washroom, staff very arrogant.
The price. 5 usd per night for a single room with own (cold) shower, toilet and sink.
It's very OK for backpackers and those that don't want any comfort at all. The food is mediocre at best and expensive. There are small places near by that are far cheaper and you get far more (food wise) but Lakeside does western food as well, like burgers and chips or pizza, so good for those who prefer it. I was there a week and my room was not serviced once and the rooms in the pictures belay the actuality. It was a bit sparse too (the room) with a childsize towel and a paper thin blanket which was for a single bed I'm sure. The shower drain was clogged with old hair and who knows what. But here's the thing... It is what it is and for 5 usd per night (roughly - some rooms are more) it's not a bad option.
This is excellent value for money, considering that rooms have hot water, a fan and air-conditioning. The reception area is comfortable and homely and the staff extremely friendly and helpful. The area is great, with many little shops, a hairdresser, plenty restaurants and a garage with convenience store all within 500m. The Lakeside also serves good food on demand at reasonable prices. There's even a money exchange a mere 50m away that also sells top-up cards for your phone, and a selection of services including laundry. There's no reason to think the area is unsafe, and there's a police station 100m from the place. If you can live with the basics, this place is absolute value for money and highly recommended.
As other people mentioned the stairs are steep and unsuitable for people with walking difficulties (or drunk!). The rooms are basic, with large beds, but without wardrobes. The guest house isn't new or upmarket, BUT at the price and considering the location these are not big issues at all.
The staff were really friendly and the room was clean. Good value for money.
A little out the way but not too far. We still walked most places but we like to walk. But you can get a tuk tuk from outside the hotel for cheap enough to wherever you want to go.
