The location is excellent and the exterior of the building is beautiful
We were housed outside of the main hotel in a wing built in the 1980s that smelled like old fast food. The pool was not working, the hot tub had earwigs floating in it. The carpeting in the pool area smelled terrible. The ice machine was covered in dust and grime. This wing of the hotel needs a deep cleaning
Good for a day or two.
The location was great, and the staff was very friendly. Good list of amenities...when available. Awesome unexpected discount for “going green” by skipping out on daily room cleanings. Plenty of on street parking, so skip out on their valet services!
Paper thin walls to the point you could hear conversations in other rooms. Beware of party functions on the main level! First night there there was a Christmas party. When I asked the front desk what time it ended (we were on the 3rd floor and could hear the music so loud it was like a concert) they stated it ended at 10. I gave up on a quite night by 10:30. The bed in the room was a full when the website stated it should have been a queen. Had to pay the full amount in “resort fees” even though some of the amenities applicable to our stay (Friday-Sunday) were unavailable/cancelled. Lastly, keep in mind there’s no fridge in the room which stunk to find out coming back with leftovers. My fault for not realizing that while reading what was included with the room.
Apparently the pricepoint, thanks to Kayak Presents well.
Otherwise, it would have been over $300 plus for a rather small room and small bathroom. The valet will tell you thats your only parking option that costs, but not true. Miscellaneous fees can add up. So many more options to stay in Newport.
So much fun!!!
When we got there they had s’mores outside at fire tables and a poolside ice cream social. The valet parking was only $20. Because they had to switch our room they upgraded us and waved the resort fee. There was plenty of staff and they were wonderful. The hotel was clean and updated.
The weird bed jet!
The location is nice and the building is charming and beautiful.
The front desk staff was very snooty. My husband and I tried multiple times to use the pool and/or hot tub but were unable to because there was no room. Every time we checked, it was packed full with screaming children jumping in and splashing those in the hot tub.
It's okay. Nothing extraordinary.
The people working there are very nice. Constantly opening doors etc.
Sneaky hidden "resort" fee. This is NOT a resort. If you're going to tack on an extra $50 at check out that you hid from your fees then you need to have much nicer facilities. The workout room was small. The pool had carpet around it and was too cold to use. The beds were VERY creaky and could be heard all night long when the people upstairs got out of bed to use the restroom etc. the rooms were clean enough, not super, but I wouldn't put my baby in that bathtub that's for sure.
The Viking Hotel is in a perfect location. You can walk to all of the attractions. The staff was courteous and took care of all of our needs.
The bathroom was tiny.
Great location and luxury appeal.
Seems that the luxury only goes to the higher end rooms and more public places. The public bathroom in the hotel was 3 times more amazing than the one in our room.
Location was great, close to shopping and Downtown.
Requested a king size bed, but got a queen sized bed. There were only 2 queen rooms, and we got one b/c of our length of stay?? Sink did not drain the first day, but was fixed. There was no electrical outlet in the bathroom, had to use the hairdryer out in the bedroom, but had to plug it in under the desk, so I was not able to stand and dry my hair. Wallpaper in the bathroom was lifting. The bed was not comfortable. Advertised that there were pillow top mattresses, ours was definitely not a pillow top and it was quite flat. There was no refrigerator in the room, coffee maker was old and outdated. I have been in far cheaper rooms that provided a keurig and nicer coffee provisions. Powdered creamer in a packet was gross. Overall, it was fairly disappointing for the $500.00 per night rate.
I thought the staff was very friendly. There was an upbeat vibe in lobby. The location was great. Easy to walk everywhere from the hotel.
Didn't like that I had to valet park my car. My final bill was $130 more than I agreed to because of extra fees. There was an extra resort fee and the parking was expensive. Mattress was very old and uncomfortable.
This is a lovely hotel in the middle of a historic district with an easy walk to shops and restaurants. Hotel staff was very friendly and attentive to our needs. We had a great time in Newport.
All the extra charges. There is an extra $35 nite fee for parking. That should be included for people who stay.
The location in the heart of Newport, the thoughtfulness, courtesy, and effeciency of the staff (for example, there was a minor electrical problem that was taken care of diligently and well), the utter cleanliness.
I have found the quality of the food at the Restaurant attached to the hotel to be lagging behind whereas the service was excellent. The quality of the food - bland and quite mediocre - does not do justice to the reputation of the hotel, otherwise well-deserved. The average quality of the ingredients used may explain the culinary results.
The Staff were excellent and made you you feel very welcome. Also the food in the resturant was of high quality and good valve for money.
Comfortable, elegant, great spa and pool, dinner in on-site restaurant was creative, outstanding, really; easy walk to mansions, harbor, shops and galleries, well maintained, green sensibilities, helpful and courteous staff; personal, not corporate feel
I am always disappointed to have to pay for wireless internet-but it was easy to use;
Very nice building and lovely entrance hall. Good breakfast. Good location location, which is within walking distance of the harbour area with good restaurants etc.
I didn't like the fact that my children were allocated a dank prison of a room with no window at all (so no ventilation, no daylight and no means of escape in the event of a fire in the corridor outside). I didn't like the smell of damp that pervades the corridors and the bedrooms. I didn't like the attitude of somer of the staff. It was too expensive at $500/night.

The wait staff at the restaurant was very attentive and friendly.
Room was small although well appointed and clean
When I got to check out. Took 40 minutes to get my car via "valet parking", people who came after us got their car before us.
Rude staff, understaffed, small rooms, had to open the shower door to go to the bathroom, room smelled like smoke, could not get service at the bar, could not get seated for breakfast.
I liked the fact that it is pet friendly yet still luxury. The staff was friendly and helpful and the location to everything is great.
We were visiting Newport as part of a birthday celebration and the Viking was a wonderful place to do this. The room was beautiful as was the entire hotel.
The breakfast offerings were not easily understood. I thought that a continental breakfast was included. Never the less, the choices were many and our breakfasts were excellent.
