Cons: I did not appreciate the greeting that I had at the reception. The woman on the desk was very dry and unhelpful. I had to remind them that I have an LHW card and am entitled to certain priviledges.

Cons: The breakfast for a 5 star hotel was a little flat. We were charged for our hire car being put away; the driveway to the hotel is narrow, nearly always congested, and is on a very steep bank. We agreed to it being put away to save the staff (or us) the hassel of parking in so difficult a place; we didn't need the car for a days or so and accepted the suggestion made by them - it should have been made plain to us at that time there was a charge of 30 CHFa day. The receptionist at check out was dismissive and didn't take this suggestion on board.

Cons: Breakfast (quality) was not up to the standards of a 5 star hotel Staff seamed reserved and inattentive, perhaps because we did not speak itallian. The toilett was broken, dripping/trickling water produced a constant annoying noise.

Cons: I arrived at 3 pm and had to wait until 5 pm to get into my room, which I did not complain, but then the following day, I wanted to take a boat trip, and asked to extend my check out time for 30 minutes at 12:30. Then the reception replied that there is someone checking-in at 13:00, and therefore asked me to check-out before I leave for the boat at 8:30. The schedule for the boat is not my fault and where I had to wait until 5pm, I found this very unfair.

Cons: Staff quite rude and unkind, especially at the bar, with few exceptions. Air Conditioning system impossible to set at the right temperature. In general, not really what one would expect from a four-stars hotel.

Cons: The hotel is a ride to town and every ride just to get to town is 20-25 dollars each way. I wished the hotel shuttle ran more often. Some days we spent $100.00 just on taxis.

Cons: Advanced charging of the room bill immediately upon our arrival although my credit cards were available to the hotel staff since I'd made the booking via website and this was our second stay at the hotel. That gesture of mistrust made us feel we were not welcome to the hotel.

Cons: The kitchen closes too early, there is neither restaurant open nor room service after 11pm, so if you come back from a concert or other event after 10:30 there is no way to eat enything, even if you beg the staff for a plate of cheese or a simple snack, there is nothing available. For a hotel of such high category (and price) it is absolutely unacceptable.

Cons: It was noisy due to its proximity to the train station and the other guests were raucously noisy until at least midnight. (We're talking screaming, running, and generally loud conversations.) We had a crying baby next door and we were above the dinning room. The train noise started at 5am. The showers closed at either 10pm or 11pm. The beds were two twins pushed together.

Cons: Although the buildings are charming to look at, the walls between the rooms are paper-thin and noise from other guests in their rooms, on the stairs, and shutting doors cannot be prevented. A box of ear-plugs at reception would be a good idea.

Cons: They gave us a room without a view although "panoramic views" were promised when we booked and confirmed in writing. Upon us complaining, the receptionist said the view was from the balcony. We had to argue and then got reassigned a new new room which was indeed very nices and spacious. However, given a price of CHF 400 per night, you do not expect to this type of attitude. The rating of poor in category (2) above reflects this experience. Note that staff in the gym and restaurant were "good" to "excellent".

Cons: The hotel is just besides a funicular that connects the city center to the train station. Every five minutes the whole building is shacked. Moreover the rooms are not sound proof at all, so you can hear all the conversations in the next rooms and in the corridors.

Cons: The extremely slow and unreliable internet. Not all rooms have internet (and it does not seem that you can book a room with internet). The lobby has free wifi but they do not use codes so anyone nearby can tap in and that makes the connection slow, if you are even able to connect. On our last day of our stay we saw people using computers in what is usually a dark corner of a room and that apparently was the "business center". We had 3 agonizing days of slow or no internet and they never told us about the business center. Also, expect a room next to the funicular which runs from 5 am to 11 pm.

Also a small room safe for valuables, and a television (if desired), and a mini-bar. Very comfortable, although not huge, room. The lobby staff was very helpful with directions and even printed out a computer schedule of train departures for us. They were knowledgable about the activities in Lugano and surroundings, and friendly and helpful.

Cons: We had a disappointing dinner one night, but it was a "test" for the new cooks, and we did not receive very good service, were seated in a separate room from the rest of the guests, and the seafood tagliatelle were not good. We also were not given a chance to order dessert - although the "intern cooks" were busy flambeeing some fancy dessert for other guests. But the salad and appetizers were excellent, and other meal selections. The hotel elevator was odd and the doors did not always open at the desired floor; it had a mind of its own and we felt a bit in danger sometimes, since it was out of control. But the stairs were central and easy to take if you had no baggage.

Cons: The fact that it's reasonably far from city centre should be made more clear. Despite the fact that it contains the word "Centre" in its title, it was quite far from the actual Centre, which was slightly uncomfortable since my grandparents were accompanying us.

Cons: Bed was a "double" which meant two single beds pulled together. Not that fun for a honeymoon... Easy to fall into the "valley" between beds.
