Beautiful architecture, feels like walking in old city or in temple grounds. Excellent location a few minutes walk from Kenting Street but on a very quiet peninsula. Nice coastal trail with small sandy cove 1 mn from the rooms. We had 2 rooms, one was newer and better.
One of the rooms was a bit dated
There was no kitchen where we could cook/warm food of our own choice. I would recommend establishing a cooking point not in the room but in the hotel.
We were checked in a terribly old room, after two nights of uncomfortable staying, I complained to the counter and immeditely upgrade to a better one. The staffs were helpful in all manners. The location is great, with its own quiet path to a small coral bay.
The general cleanliness of the restaurant can be better.
Great place! Very calm and quiet in bustling Ken Ting. Lovely wee beach (no swimming but beautiful) and hearty breakfast. Stayed two additional nights because we liked it so much.
Arghh - hate to sound like the proverbial tourist, but just a little bit more info about surrounding sights in other languages would have been useful.
Really enjoyed the traditional Taiwanese village atmosphere, the friendly staff, the proximity to the ocean, the easy walk to Kenting Street and its night market. We liked that we were staying where Taiwanese school children (e.g. from Taipei, Tainan) stay on their big getaway overnighter field trips. That said, the rooms were much larger, with raised ceilings, than we would have expected as a "Youth Activity Center". Comfortable and clean double queen size beds slept four of us fine. The Taiwanese-style breakfast was great - fresh home-cooked flavor. Loved the simple but delicious flavors: stir fried green vegetables, rice porridge with preserved egg, fried eggs, hot milk tea, steamed "man tou" buns with rou song. Wifi was surprisingly excellent. On-site (coin-operated) laundry and daily water bottles were great to have. Kids enjoyed playing with the stilts in the courtyard and watching the morning flag-raising ceremony. Stayed in January and the heater worked well for us when it got a bit chilly (high 50s F). The temperate weather at that time JD year was perfect for us though, having endured many hot and humid summers in Taiwan, and it allowed us to explore and enjoy playing on the beach - observing fascinating washed-up coral and many hermit crabs - and we enjoyed walking along the coastal trail. We didn't get to this, but heard good reviews of taking a taxi to the forest recreation area - forest, butterflies, and monkeys. It's also a short taxi ride to the lighthouse and the southernmost point of Taiwan. To get there, we took the Taiwan High-Speed Rail (gao tie, 高鐵) from Taipei Main Station to Kaohsiung (Zuoying Station), then the Kenting Express bus from Zuoying to Kenting. Kids under 12 were half price for both. No reservations needed, just buy HSR tickets at the Taipei station and then Kenting Express bus tickets at Zuoying when you get there.
A bit of a walk from the Kenting Express bus stop if you arrive late and have a lot of luggage. We arrived in the early afternoon with two kids under 12, our backpacks, and a rolling luggage, and were fine. (Look for the white sign with the flags - see pic - and turn right into property, walk a little ways, then left at the "parking lot attendant booth") Facilities were clean, but don't expect modern hotel level, more like the traditional destination experience that it is. Water pressure was okay, as to be expected. Kenting Night Market was a little loud and touristy for our tastes - though we were there in the middle of the week in January. The Kenting tourist/beach/young crowd vibe got a little old for our family after one night, but it was easy to take the local bus north to the nearest "city", Hengchun. We really enjoyed exploring the old town area of Hengchun.
