Ukukus Hostel

The most wonderful thing about staying at UKUKUS is their amazing staff. We interacted with a few more but the ones who really helped us out during the stay were Ruth and Angela. They are great hosts and was quick to respond when we needed assistance (especially for getting around), they even helped to book a private taxi to pick us up 3 hours away when I had a medical emergency. It felt like we were staying amongst friends and I could truly relax and feel comfortable. While this hostel is simple, we really like the location (historical centre, about 15 min walk to the main plaza, 5 min walk from San Pedro Market!), the fact that there’s a kitchen and fridge, the view from the patio, free tea and coca leaves. UKUKUS is pretty clean and they ask every day if we want our room cleaned. Noise level is pretty low, and most days we wake up to the sound of birds. It has a very homely feel.

There are only two things I will comment on, and even these are not horrendous. First is the wifi: it’s very unpredictable and sometimes it just won’t connect. Second is the hot water: twice there was no hot water in the shower and we have to ask them to turn it on/fix it (to which they responded really fast and got it fixed within 10 minutes!). Both of these are not even deal breakers for me, and if everything else remained the same, I would still book with UKUKUS. This is why I’m still giving the rating that I did.
