Forced to buy car insurance or face a $2000 hold on credit card. Bought their insurance, still put a $400 hold on card. Gave a car that was a total POS, scraped up, no AC, pieces falling off during the driving. Don’t recommend this company at all.
I liked the car, the service from people. But my deposit money has not been unlocked yet. And there was a problem with the pick-up, because I followed the location given from Kayak.com, but turns out the car was near airport, so I did my the bus trip twice. Other than that, everything was fine.
When we arrived at the airport to pick up our car, we were told that we needed to pay for the booking in cash, which is extremely unusual. It turns out that if you pay by cash, your credit card company does not cover the insurance, so if we paid by cash, we would have had to pay an extra EUR 280 in insurance. I told the agent that this was unexpected and unfair, but he told me that his boss said that Economy Rent-a-Car reservations had to be paid in cash I called the Economy office in Greece, and I was told that they couldn't help me, that this was between me and the agent I found this so unprofessional that I called the Economy office in the USA, where they told me that indeed this was an unusual policy and they were going to check for me why they are asking me to pay by cash. Unfortunately, they hung up on me Fortunately, I had an email from Economy from one month before in which they confirmed that I could pay with any credit card. When I showed this to the agent, he immediately agreed to take the card payment, without every consulting with his supervisor (see the first paragraph, in which he told me that it was his boss that was forcing him to take a cash payment) To add insult to injury, when we got the car it was a Peugeot 108, which only has 4 seats and barely any room for luggage. I had specifically chosen the "small" category instead of "mini", because we needed room for a baby stroller. The confirmation I got from priceline says "Volkswagen Polo or similar". Economy translates this to "Fiat Panda or similar". Both the Volkswagen Polo and the Fiat Panda have 5 seats and a decent-size trunk. Instead, the Peugeot 108 was extremely tiny and we could barely fit ourselves and the luggage; we had to travel in really uncomfortable conditions. The Peugeot 108 looks much more like the Toyota Aygo, which is a "mini" car As a final note, the trunk door broke during the trip and could not longer remain open on its own, so that I had to hold it up while placing the quite heavy baby stroller inside
We were third in line and waited 45 minutes in the hot sun--process could have been quicker! No VW Polo's available so we got a Fiat Panda which looked to be 10 years old. Four people and four bags just barely fit and it took four tries to close the back hatch. The car did the job and got us around Crete, but the VW Polo we saw on the lot at drop-off sure looked much nicer!
