Santa Maria degli Ancillotti - Assisi - Building
2
9.8 Excellent (63 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located in Assisi, Santa Maria degli Ancillotti is in a rural location, within a 15-minute drive of St. Peter's Abbey and Discovery Station Assisi. Featured amenities include express check-in, complimentary newspapers in the lobby, and multilingual staff. A roundtrip airport shuttle is complimentary (available on request).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved everything about Santa Maria Degli Ancillotti. From the moment we arrived and were greeted so warmly by Alessio and his family we realised what a special place this. The location is stunning, tucked away in the Umbrian hills, with marvellous views and peace and quiet - yet just a short drive from the local villages and towns and all that this beautiful region of Italy has to offer. The rooms are well equipped, tastefully furnished, comfortable and clean. The food was delicious, breakfasts and dinner created and prepared by Alessio's lovely family if you choose to eat in, and bar service round the pool a real treat. The swimming pool is extremely well maintained and great for lengths as well as taking a dip when feeling the heat and the sun bathing area is immaculate and perfect for relaxing with a good book or just snoozing the time away. ...above all we were made to feel thoroughly spoilt by our hosts, who looked after us so well and were always on hand to advise and help us whenever we asked; hardly surprising that almost all the guests we met have been before and return time and time again to this little piece of paradise. We hope to return too.
Cons: There was nothing we did not like at Santa Maria degli ancillotti
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Owner and family take a pride in their property and work ethics. Made sure all were welcomed and taken care of. Ecellent all around and worth staying there since location is centrally to many places in Italy.
Cons: Everything property, Apartment, bathroom, restaurante, pool and best of all service.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. It is a small, family run hotel, with excellent facilities. The family are very friendly and looked after us very well. The views from everywhere on the property are so beautiful, the whole property feels so quiet and peaceful. Every morning we were served a lovely breakfast, I particularly enjoyed the home made yoghurt and honey. The restaurant served home made, delicious food each night. There are five courses and I was very full at the end of the meal. We only stayed to eat in one time because I eat very little meat, and we like to try different restaurants whilst we're on holiday, but as the food is so good, many people stayed to eat in every nignt. The menu is different every night, and you can choose to stay in or go out each morning. I recommend this hotel, it is lovely.
Cons: Only a small thing, maybe there could be some fresh fruit with breakfast.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Close your eyes and imagine the most stunning views, hills, beautiful olive trees. Then add stone cottages with pattios, spacious rooms and bathrooms. This place is amazing. The owner (Alessio) and his family are very attentive and just want to make sure that you’ll get the best holiday. We enjoyed the 5 course dinner every night at the property along with great Italian wine. Normally, we would have dinner at different restaurants when we travel, but the food is good here - homecooked by the family - and very flavoursome. No need to eat somewhere else. And the homemade pasta ... the best pasta I’ve ever had. If you are lucky, you’ll get to taste mimosa cake made by Mama. What a treat. The property is near to lots of sightseeing and beautiful places. Just book and go. You won’t regret it. We will be back next year.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was superb from the moment the electric gate swung open and we entered a marvel of peace and tranquility. The gardens are stunning and the whole environment just made for a complete chill out. Alessio is amazing and also his Mum, Wife and Sister....all working so hard as a team to provide a high quality experience. The Pool is fabulous as are all 4 dogs, several cats , and an aviary. I didn't get to try the hammock so I will be back! The meals are sensational. All home cooking and fresh produce. The golden eggs for breakfast are unrivalled. Alessio is a great host and very helpful with wines too! Thanks to the whole family and we can't wait to return.
Cons: LEAVING after only two nights...silly me
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owners were super friendly, available and kind. The location is awesome and the dogs and cats kept us good company at the pool!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Alessio and his family work hard to make your stay perfect and memorable. This is our second time staying here in two years and we met others here who have come numerous times. I totally get why. It is completely relaxing and the meals are really incredible. Stunning food, beautifully presented, and done with an informal warmth that is impossible to describe. This trip we brought my father in law who needed a wheelchair, and the family provided us with one as well as made suggestions of local activities to do that would involve areas and locations that were accessible. Very thoughtful and kind. We will be back for sure!
Cons: Nothing!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Alessio and his family toon the agriturismo experience to the next level. Apartments are beautifully decorated and cleaned every day, pool area and surroundings are well kept. The best part is the excellent home cooked food and a welcomed atmosphere thanks to Alessio and his family.

Overview Reviews
With a stay at Hotel Sorella Luna in Assisi, you'll be within a 15-minute walk of Roman Temple of Minerva and Cathedral of San Rufino. The front desk is staffed during limited hours.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is a such a lovely small hotel perfectly located for seeing Assisi.
Cons: This did not bother us but older folks who cannot walk uphill a lot should note that it is a good uphill walk up to the main square. However, the hotel is very close and well located for the main attraction which is the church and its frescoes.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was very clean and the staff very friendly.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very kind and informative. The rooms are completely renovated and clean with all needed amenities. The breakfast setup was excellent with a great variety. The cappuccino was excellent. Also an excellent location with a very nearby handicap parking space. Would definitely return!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Sorella Luna is perfect! Two minute walk from the Basilica of St. Francis and overall great location. The staff is incredibly attentive and hospitable. The breakfast is delicious and diverse (they scrambled eggs for us!). When I come back to this beautiful magical town, there’s no question where I’ll be staying. I should also mention, the taxi service was amazing! Giovani was so passionate and informative. It was not only a great ride, but felt like a tour as well! Grazie Mille!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is within walking to the St Francis Cathedral. It’s a walk to the centre of town but that is ok for us. Very close to city bust stop if someone does not want to walk.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Location Breakfast
Cons: There could have been a kettle in the room
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Extremely friendly personnel, comfortable room and great location
Cons: Selection of sweets/pastries at breakfast was great though limited choice for making sandwiches
10.0 Excellent
Pros: location a very short walk to st francis. architecture felt blended in. room was comfy, clean and quiet. breakfast bar had a good variety including some gluten free options. optional outdoor seating nooks were great! staff spoke some english. price was under a 100 euros (with breakfast) and on a par with similar places we stayed in italy.
Cons: to get here requires some uphill climbing of steps and roadway of a couple 100 meters (?) if you arrive by bus or car. air conditioning was ok but across room from sleeping area so not optimal. view out windows was just another closeby building. tv like other places was small and all shows in italian like other places.
5.0 Okay
Pros: It was close to the Basilica.
Cons: The room was like a corridor and the bed was a sofa bed. Not impressed.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I liked that Hotel Sorella Luna had installed in their hotel a wheelchair lift going from street level to the first floor where my double room was situated. Being disabled it meant the difference for me of staying or not staying in this lovely hotel. The wheelchair/stair lift also had the ability to go to the reception level. Loved being able to open the window in my room & look out onto the street & watch the world go by.
Cons: Didn’t like, that too many steep stairs without handrails prevented me from getting to the Breakfast Room from the reception level. Staff did offer to bring a breakfast tray to my room, but it wasn’t the same as choosing what I wanted to eat & drink myself.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Incredible service by Alex, the owner. He’s deeply committed to the property, it’s guests, the farm, and his employees. The kids really enjoyed the pool and various animals (especially the hotel dog). We really appreciated the farm to table food - the best of our two weeks in Italy. Nearly all ingredients are raised or harvested on site or close by. The house olive oil - a two-time gold medal winner at the Athens international olive oil contest - is incredible. The property dates to 1092 and the accommodations are nicely appointed with our room having air conditioning. We opted for the fresh country air by opening windows on both sides of our room. It is set in the terraced olive tree groves just outside Assisi and overlooks the countryside. It boast just 15 rooms, so all guests feel special. Without a doubt, Assisi was our favorite stop on this trip, Alex and his property were largely responsible for that. We absolutely recommend this property to all travelers - including those with kids. We are already talking about going back.
Cons: When we went to dinner, the maitre de told us (family of four)that we would have to wait 20 minutes for a table on the terrace or we could be seated immediately alone inside. This was disappointing since an open table set for five was literally in front of us on the terrace. We opted to wait. Two minutes later, Alex (owner) came in, asked if we were having dinner, and immediately sat us at the open table on the terrace. This was the only thing that I can remember that was not perfect, and when Alex walked in, he immediately made it right.

Pros: Pictures on booking.com is realistic. The view was the best you can have. The service was excellent. The room was clean and comfortable.
Cons: Too talkative host.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The pool and garden area are beautiful. So nice to have a swim & drinks by the pool after a hot day walking around Assisi. Dinner was a wonderful experience, very good food & good wine. The view of Assisi absolutely amazing
Cons: Internet did not work in bedroom. The shower is very narrow.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The location of this hotel is perfect. It has a breathtaking view of Assisi and there is an easy regular bus service into the city. Our hosts, Massimo and Rosita looked after us extremely well, (despite lots of teasing about Brexit!!) The environment is relaxing, with the view both day and night being the icing on the cake. Rosita's cooking was of Cordon Bleu standard and beautifully presented. The selection of tarts and cakes for breakfast was overwhelming, and the dinner (for which we opted) was a sheer delight, and still with that wonderful view! The colourful gardens are kept with meticulous care and were a sheer delight to sit in and enjoy the pool.
Cons: The rooms are furnished in traditional style with “old” furniture, but were comfortable. However the bathroom was so tiny that there was not really room to dry oneself!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It’s semi-rural setting and proximity to Assisi make it a charming place to stay. There are in fact stunning views of the city on the hill. Massimo was a friendly and welcoming host. The rooms are individually decorated, the pool was inviting and clean. There is an on-site restaurant if you wish to eat there, and the meals were truly delicious. We loved our two nights there.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful location with an amazing view of Assisi! It was easy to park our car on the property and it was a very short drive to both Assisi and Santa Maria Degli Angeli. Very kind and friendly owners! Lovely house with Italian decorations - you know it is a house that is loved! Unfortunately we only stayed one night and did not have time to enjoy the beautiful pool or use the restaurant so we will just have to return! Grazie mille!
6.7 Good
Pros: Good location
Cons: Service at pool area needs attention
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Amazing view Quiet area Helpful host (massimo) Very good sweets Tasty and special dinner ( massimo chose it for us :)
Cons: Nothing..... we liked it all
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved our stay at Il Roseto . The attention to detail & personal touches helped to create a luxurious yet affordable place to stay. Immaculate grounds surrounding the gorgeous pool (with, of course, that view!); quality towels (bath & pool towels changed daily); crisp & spotless table linens; an abundance of comfortable garden furniture; the stunning setting & high standard of our reasonably priced 4 course dinner each evening. Massimo was an attentive host, committed to offering his guests the best possible experience.
Cons: Our standard double room was on the small side & didn't offer a view - but as the majority of our time was spent outside, this didn't detract from our overall enjoyment.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location and delicious food at the restaurant which was also great value for money. Our host was very helpful and demonstrated great hospitality. We would love to return and stay for longer next time!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: What can we say? Wow. The pictures are 100% accurate. Set right below the base of the hill in Assisi, there is no dreamier setting to spend your days (or evenings) if you are in the area. This is a family run business, and the love and passion the owners have for this guest house is immediately apparent. The rooms were comfortable, with an old world style. The bus to head into town is just across the street, making it super simple to explore during the morning and relax pool-side and in the garden in the afternoons. We also opted to have dinner under the stars and watch the town light up from day to night. The menu was delicious and is well worth the splurge if you are staying here. Ask the owner about his wines—we can definitely recommend his chardonnay. Though only a short stay, we felt so rested, relaxed and pampered during our time here.
Cons: We wish we could have stayed longer!

8.8 Excellent
Pros: We enjoy the Hotel Umbra and I have stayed there before and the location is great however the beds are terribly uncomfortable as they are too hard. The buffet breakfast could also be improved.

Pros: Excellent location in Assisi! Right next to main square! Gorgeous view of valley below right outside our window!
Cons: Hairdryer and breakfast could have had more to offer guests.
7.9 Good

Cons: Tiny room
9.6 Excellent
Pros: There were a number of different folks staffing the front desk at different times. To a person, they were helpful and friendly. The hotel is just off of a large piazza in Assisi.
Cons: This has nothing to do with the hotel. The recommended parking lot was about a 10 minute fairly steep walk from the hotel if you are lugging suitcases. There may be a more optimal solution than walking as we chose to do.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: This hotel is right In the centre of Assisi but it is very quiet and charming and run by a delightful warm and welcoming family
Cons: Breakfast scrambled eggs were so salty I could not eat them!

Pros: Hotel Moderno is an excellent option for visitors interested in staying close, … super close to the train station. The bus to Assisi stops right across the hotel. You can feel the hotel is owned by a close family, all willing to assist their guests. Rooms had the minimum but were clean and comfortable. Breakfast had a few options nicely displayed and the cappuccinos were GREAT!!
Cons: There was a bit of last minute confusion at the front desk to provide the room accommodations we requested and confirmed in advance thru email. The issue was quickly resolved to our satisfaction.

5.8 Okay
Pros: modern design
Cons: room extremely small no heating despite low outside temperature slow service not really a 5 star hotel
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Lovely spa, very comfortable room, beautiful gardens, and decent breakfast.
Cons: An outside pool would have completed the experience.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Staff were fantastic and did everything possible to make our stay perfect. Breakfast was fantastic with high quality produce, ranging from charcuterie, great Italian cheese and wonderful patisserie and cakes, including gluten-free options. Our suite on two floors with our own entrance was fabulous. The Roman spa facilities were the best I have ever come across! The gardens, replete with highly scented shrubs, such as rosemary and lavender was second to none.
Cons: We felt the rooms were a little spartan and could have benefitted from a little more thought to the interior - that being said, I used to be an architectural interior designer. The toilet seats could have been soft-closing, so if one forgot, they would come crashing down.
7.5 Good
Pros: The breakfast was excellent.
Cons: The only thing that could have been improved was the fruit juice which was not fresh.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was contemporary and upscale in all aspects. Exterior and interior walls were stacked stone and in niches were ceramic pots. Toiletries were wonderful to use. The staff was most attentive and helpful. But, the best aspect was the spa! What a serene paradise!
Cons: Everything was perfect!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Spa was excellent and the breakfast was also very nice
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The design of the bedrooms and the dining experience
Cons: No swimming pool
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Excellent staff. Most comfortable bed in Italy☺️ Fabulous massages. Beautiful, zen-like decor. Beautiful, zen-like public spaces and gardens.
Cons: Extremely loud, joyous party at a private residence next door on my last evening. Staff had no control over this variable but neither did they offer any compensation. I chose the property because it was so far removed from town, had a "wellness" focus, and promised to be a peaceful and quiet retreat.... which it was, until my last night there. Some kind of monetary concession would have been a nice gesture.

9.5 Excellent
Pros: Garage Parkinh. Excellent Breakfast. Location
Cons: The room was on the lower level and we had a rumbling noise above as if someone was moving furniture
2.9 Mediocre
Pros: Maybe the breakfast VIEW
Cons: WORST HOTEL OF OUR LIFE Lets make a list 1- they don’t answer emails so you don’t know if you can park or not, so when we got there was no parking 2- the lady at the reception is unwilling to help in nothing, she is rude, even tho my husband is fluent in italian, she didn’t change the “mad face” like she was doing a favor to do our check in 3- the hotel restaurant was fully booked and she told us that she couldn’t do a waiting list. 4-We ask asked to her do a reservation in other ones, she told us in english and in Italian that wasn’t needed at 6PM 5- At 21:20 we started our CLIMB to the restaurant, when we got there starving and sweating, THE RESTAURANTS WAS FULLYBOOKED, and of course need reservations ! 6- After this journey, we got to our room to try to relax and a new surprises : - the pillow is a rock, the mattress has a hole on it, we woke up in pain, even my daughter in her 20’s (in an other room) said she had to took a pain killer in the morning 7- seems they turn off the central AC, so we woke up in sweat (in the sun and with pain) - EXTRA : the spa is 25 euros pp , and close at 8pm , and the blackout doesn’t work so be ready to wake up with sun This is the worst hotel experience of my life almost ruined the city for us. The receptionist is rude, bad night of sleep, was literally a PAINFULLY experience

Cons: None.
7.1 Good
Pros: Wonderful location, comfortable room, nice view on the terrace, the majority of the staff were helpful, good breakfast.
Cons: One day during breakfast, a waitress offered to prepare a fresh orange juice, by coincidence my Mother saw when the waitress drank orange juice and on the same glass she prepared orange juice for us. This is completely unacceptable. This was informed immediately to the manager in charged of this incident.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice, clean and comfortable hotel. Our room had amazing view over the valley. Professional and very helpful staff. Lovely terrace with beautiful views to enjoy a drink. We had a great time and loved this hotel. Definitely will come back.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Lovely view from the balcony when having breakfast, which was brilliant. Staff are incredibly friendly and helpful and the bar at night is not extremely busy but a few people on the balcony having a drink- a really nice atmosphere!
Cons: We thought that 25€ per person for two hours in the spa was far too expensive. Also be careful ordering a glass of wine at the bar as they will give you the most expensive one, which is 10€ a glass.
6.3 Good
Pros: Not alot
Cons: Having paid for a room with a terrace it was very disappointing to find the terrace unusable as the exhaust from the kitchen discharged into the terrace. Smelly and very noisy.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Staff went out and beyond to help us, specially the ladies at the front desk, even if it was late night. Breakfast spread was awesome, the view breathless.
Cons: My kids were a bit scared of the décor, felt like an old house to them. I was fine with it otherwise.
7.9 Good
Pros: Love the location! Breakfast was amazing. Balcony was nice with good views.
Cons: Beds were extremely hard. The spa had limited hours. Furniture in lobby and lounge were old. The bar was not well staffed.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: This little European-style hotel is the perfect price in the perfect location. Everything was as expected. The breakfast was very good.
Cons: We didn’t bother trying to park at the hotel (they only have a few spots). We parked at the public parking, underground, and walked the 10 minutes. It’s great if you can walk uphills and have very little luggage (which we can and we did).
