Great Location and Lovely Building
The hotel is in a great location by Amsterdam Centraal. It is easy to get to and a great place to explore the city from.
The maid service was sub standard for a $300+/night hotel. The bed was made but other items were never straightened.
Honeymoon at Grand Hotel Amrath
The building itself was lovely, very gothic with a cozy feel. The breakfast was excellent, make sure you get it included in your original price. The spa was nice and the staff was extremely helpful. We rented bikes from the hotel for a day and they were very good rides, better than our bikes at home! The mini bar is stocked daily and is FREE! We kept drinking our mini wines in the double bath tub every night. Great location, across the canal from central station. A great choice for our honeymoon stay.
Our room was on the first floor, so keeping the windows open at night for a breeze did not work out as the street noise was too loud. Our last night we noticed a small visitor in our room, a mouse, who was persistent and did not want to leave. It was our last night so we just said our goodnight to our guest and slept, it's an old building so I don't think it is an "infestation" but rather something that comes with staying in an old, large building.
Great location, friendly staff
The room was incredibly stuffy as there was no A/C. We couldn't open the windows at night because the building construction next door started promptly at 7 am and the noise was unbearable with the windows open. Would never had booked here if I knew I would get about 2 hrs of sleep per night. The price was decent but now I know why!
Nice staff and for cruise it is perfect location
Close to everything including ships
The Hotel Amrath is a jewel among luxury hotels--beautiful architecture inside and out; clean, spacious comfortable rooms; great accommodating staff; and centrally located so one can walk everywhere. Don't miss the gorgeous pool and spa.
Architectural and Artistic Marvel!
A different and positive Amsterdam experience. Great location and facilities.
The building is an antique that seems to recently been rejuvenated. It's important to keep this in mind when coming here, because the place is not a modern hotel, and so some modern things may be missing. For example, the elevators could be quite awkward and I cannot imagine how the floors are handicap accessible. That said, the bathrooms were brand new and quite nice. And finally, they throw in a full, FREE mini-bar.
It's a bit expensive, and going up and down stairs can be annoying with luggage.
Grand Hotel Amrth Amsterdam is located in the former Shippinghouse, a decorated monument and example of the Amsterdam School architecture. The 5-star deluxe hotel has 205 rooms in Art Deco style with high ceilings and large windows that allow plenty of natural light, including 22 suites, 8 conference/banquet rooms, a restaurant, a bar/lounge, and a Spa & Wellness centre. At only 500 meters from the Central Station, where you will find bus, tram and metro connections to all areas of the city. The distance from Schiphol airport is only 15 minutes by train.
