The Old Swan Barracks - Hostel

The private room is comfy. Apparently they have just newly restored the rooms (the building is an old army barracks in the past). The private room for 2 is cosy and spacious. Service was great and the interior of the building was nicely designed.

There was supposed to be a portable heater ready in the room (it was July, winter) for us, but it wasn’t and we had to go to the reception to ask for it once we realised it was too cold. The corridor walkway was kinda stinky because everyone left their dirty and smelly shoes outside their rooms, then I saw a huge cockroach on the ground (still alive and crawling around) outside the toilets on the walkway. All the nights I stayed I couldn’t get a hairdryer because they said it was all borrowed, maybe they should buy more then, or have some installed in the girls bathroom. Free breakfast is a self service with big boxes of sliced bread and cereal. But you have to take your own crockery there because they don’t provide for free (deposit of $10 for one set). Imagine wanting to eat cereal in the morning but no bowl or cup!
