The room sea view with Abbey and Church.
The breakfast was poor. There was no scrambled eggs. The the fried eggs were overcooked and rubbery.
The view from the room and breakfast.
Well and truly over priced for what it was. It is very dated and needs some attention. The room was very basic the only good thing about it really was the breakfast and the view. Will not be returning.
The Royal Hotel, Whitby I had booked this hotel as our last overnight stay on our honeymoon. My wife and I got married in Gretna Green on Friday 26th July and I chose Whitby as a stop on our way back home from Edinburgh, where we had spent a couple of days leaving Gretna Green. I had (mistakenly, it’s now clear) thought that The Royal Hotel would be one of the better places to stay in Whitby. As the last night of our honeymoon, I certainly wanted this to be the case. And at £129 for one night’s bed and breakfast, it wasn’t in the lower end of the price range, so we were more than a little surprised at the generally run down/neglected look of the exterior of the hotel as we pulled up in our car. The general overall impression of ‘tired’ continued as we entered the hotel. To be honest, ‘tired’ is very much understating the case. The hotel looks/feels generally neglected, run down and very much past it’s best. While I’m sure, in its heyday, it was a splendid hotel, its heyday was clearly quite some time ago. Paintwork was chipped, marked and, in many places, grubby. A hotel in need of a bit of a refurb/update is one thing; this was grubby and run down. The outside of our bedroom door did not inspire us with confidence with regard to what we would find on the other side of it. The door was very grubby, with lots of paint missing. And things didn’t improve inside the room. Everything was just very much past its best. The ceiling in the bathroom was heavily stained, the woodwork around the door was grubby and the shower curation rail was rusty. Toiletries (shower gel, shampoo, etc.) are not available in the rooms, but can be requested, apparently. What an odd/unusual approach. Thankfully, the bed linen looked clean (we checked), so that was, at least, something of a saving grace.
Everything Awful just awful Don’t book this hotel...... not worth the money for this smelly retirement home
