1. The front office assistant, Blanca was incredibly helpful. She solved us at the first night some problems we had and she gave us great tips! 2. The location is really beachfront and the beach was amazing. 3. Great design in the hotel. 4.
1. The room was in the photos when we booked was not the room we took at the day of the arrival. Finally, we had an upgrade and we went in a family room, 4 people with 2 double beds in the same place. Also, there was no door between the bedroom and the toilet. We did not have serious problem at all. We are easy going guests. 2. Note that the water in the shower is probably salty. 3. The music at the beach bar ends around 22.30-23.00. 4. The rooms needs much better design and renovation.
Room size - the biggest I have seen in Tulum. rooms clean beautiful water in front of the hotel good location, in the heart of the beach area
The room had a very strong sewage smell. They tried to fix it by pouring some chemicals down the drain but the smell came back after 30 minutes. I think they have major sewage problems. Just to be clear, the room was very clean, but the smell was overwhelming. The restaurant next door has parties until 2 am. Don't book if you have kids or if you an early bird. You will not be able to sleep. The windows in my room were vibrating form the noise even though I was farther away from the restaurant. The beach in front of the rooms is steep. If you want a flat beach you have to go in front of the restaurant, where the beach club is. The breakfast service is ridiculous slow, and that's because they just sit talking with each other rather then serving the customers. Every morning i had to ask for coffee at least 3-4 times.
The room was so humid that the bed were litteraly wet - this isn’t acceptable for 180 usd per night in a room of less than 8 square meters
Hotel high points - The room was nice. The living area of our King, garden view (no views though really with the roof there) room was big and clean. The poor cleanliness rating is explained later - related to the smell of our E5 unit I think it was. The bed was comfy and the a/c worked great. The grounds were well kept and felt secure. The breakfast at Mia, the related restaurant, was simple and tasty. Our breakfast included with our hotel reservation had an egg, pancake, or chilaquiles option plus a big bowl of fruit with juice and coffee/tea. The staff at the restaurant were great and the front desk man that we worked with was very friendly. We also had dinner at the restaurant and it was delish! Easy to get a table (bookable via OpenTable) The location was convenient once you wind down the road and get to the hotel. We walked a lot of places and there are tasty and fun spots very nearby. There's a cheap taco spot next door (it takes credit card!), right next to a farmacia
Hotel low points - We stayed in December 2019, before the hotel's soft opening. Half the time the front desk at the hotel seemed a bit overwhelmed when we would visit. Worst of all, and the reason for the subpar ratings, was the water treatment system that was right behind our building. The sewage smell permeated the windows or right through the walls and made for a smelly room and any time we would leave our room. We mentioned it upon checkout, and they seemed like they'd never noticed or heard of anything about that so hopefully they can remedy it somehow. The unit required a key card entry on stairs on the side of our bungalow building, and it seems pretty simple to hop around that and to continue up to the room - and our sliding doors to our room did not lock. The room shares the level with another unit that is separated by a low, simple fence. There is a safe in the room (you receive a lock for it upon checking in for a $40 USD refundable cash deposit) so important, smaller things are protected, but additional protection for the room would be a nice addition. Mia isn't linked directly to Selina so you'll need to take care of any tips separate from the a hotel-included breakfast, and we couldn't put our beach purchases on the room for ease of use - no big issue but a suggestion for improvements.
