I booked two rooms for my guests at Carnegie and my experience was absolutely horrible. The person who checked us in didn't even look at our faces. She had a horrible attitude. I think she was a student, who worked part time there and didn't care about her job. When my guests checked out today, they apparently forgot to return one of the keys. The manager called me on my cell phone with an attitude and raised her voice at me and hung up on me. The reality is her staff should have confirmed that they had all of the keys back, when my guests were checking out to leave State College. Anyway, I still accepted to pay the fee, but I cannot believe she had the guts to yell at me and hung up on me. So rude and inappropriate... The reality is I live very close to Carnegie, and since I work at Penn State, I bring many guests that visit my department to dine there. My wife goes to their spa... I will obviously not bring anyone to Carnegie any more, and my wife will go somewhere else. Clearly the place is poorly managed, which is obvious from the fact that its kitchen burned around a year ago and couldn't be opened for several months..
Everything was pretty incredible. Very relaxing place to stay. I enjoyed celebrating my graduation weekend at this inn.
The only negative comment I have is that a grape tomato was on the floor under the desk in our room when we checked in - but it wasn't really a big deal.
I really like the location. It was a great stay.
Kitchen was closed.
Hotel construction had much of the lobby and restaurant area led to lack of staff and inability to use the lovely areas behind the hotel featured in the photos. I received a phone call a few days after booking, but no offer to cancel the reservation without losing all my $. This was a significant drawback to the booking.com prepayment process and makes me hesitant to use again.
Spacious room and bathroom. Plenty of towels and toiletries. Comfy bathrobes.
Due to kitchen renovation, no brunch could be served. A continental breakfast was served in its place. I received a phone call that dinner would not be served but no mention of breakfast. Coffee and tea available by Keurig. Very limited selection. Nail technician became sick so we were not able to get pedicures at same time. Back to back pedicures were offered but we did not want to spend that much time in getting them since we had other plans. Certainly those situations arise but nevertheless it was disappointing due to nature of weekend planned. (Mother-Daughter weekend). Pillows uncomfortable but plenty. Only 1 room key was available.
