Very dirty. Several lights didn't work, door deadbolt broken so it was often difficult closing door. Very noisy due to out-of-town workers partying outside on the balconies and coming in and out at all hours.
For someone who has lived in Florida for 21 years, I have never heard of a Howard Johnson hotel. While doing some research for a trip to st Augustine, I thought I had booked for the one on San Marco near the historical district. Turns out it was the one about 30 minutes away after traffic. Between discussing with the front desk reps at both hotels, it was against policy to wither issue a refund or to transfer the reservation ( even after I offered to pay any up charge) and would have to talk to a manager, however there wasn't on the grounds and wouldn't be until tomorrow morning ( after my reservation) so, my two options were to either stay at this hotel or pay for another room and lose the 72 dollars. The lady at the front desk at the hotel location I wanted to be near said this happens all the time and they can never do anything about it. Hotel was garbage. My room was non-smoking and it smelled like the inside of a pool hall, the door barely closed and had cracks all around it. The bathroom was barely half painted along with the fact that I had to spend 15 minutes in the morning trying to get the hair dryer working so my wife could blow dry her hair. A dozen showers later and I still feel dirty and lied too. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST
Nice stay at Howard Johnson I-95
RIGHT NEXT DOOR TO ADULT STORES!
CONVENIENT TO i95
RIGHT NEXT DOOR TO ADULT STORES.
Value shouldn't compromise cleanliness
It was the cheapest hotel I found.
The price of a place should be reflected based on location, amenities and service. Not on cleanliness.
Not worth price
The rooms were dirty and not very nice. Very easily a $30 dollar room anywhere else.
Low price? Just fine.
We paid $125 for our room because of short notice v-day shopping and lack of available rooms in the rest of town. They had a sign out front stating "$49 and up" which is the quality of hotel this was. Nothing wrong about that, I typically stay at places like that anyways, but a room like this shouldn't cost more than $75 after taxes/fees.
I guess you get what you pay for
the location was good.
old and smelly room. The door to the room was coming apart. WIFI never worked. Give a bleep attitude by owner.
The price and location
The staff was unhelpful and not willing to extend to late check out.
The location was convenient to the Outlet Malls, Dunkin' Donuts and a wide array of restaurants.
The lobby, room, bathroom, and landscaping all were in dire need of a complete renovation. The carpet was absolutely filthy, the bathroom was disgusting and the place simply needs to be shut down and given a complete renovation. In addition, an inspector needs to come in a couple of times (on a weekend and during a slow period) to see that the current management "team" is an embarrassment to the Howard Johnson name and should be fired immediately. The overall condition of this hotel is a direct reflection of the incompetence and laziness of the management. There should be a zero tolerance for allowing this hotel to be so filthy.
It was a terrible place to stay
The pool had GREEN algae in it and it burned my grandson's throat. The a/c unit had so much lint I used an entire towel to clean the filter. The floor/carpet felt damp all the time. The first room they gave me the frig was not cooling and the sink area looked like it had not been cleaned. Within the hour of them changing me from that room they put another family in it and the maid service was not available at the time. The second room had what looked like blood stains on the sheets and when I asked for them to be changed I was told the maid service was unavailable, so I said I would change them if they would give me the sheets, but was told the office did not have access to more sheet. Also the spreads had burns on them. I would not recommend this place to any one. Had I not already paid I would not have stayed there, but I'm retired and could not afford to lose my money.
Pleasantly surprised, comfortable, refrigerator in room that we did not expect, clean, good value for the money,
