Raffles Under Renovation - Great and Not So Good
Despite the massive renovations underway and the looming full closure of the hotel, the staff made every attempt at making our stay special. They were attentive, informative and provided excellent suggestions for sightseeing during our stay. Our room was classic colonial Raffles and very comfortable. It was a wonderful place to come "home" to after a long, hot day of sightseeing and shopping!
Because of the closure of large portions of the hotel, many services were curtailed or reduced such as the restaurant, long bar, pool and spa. While the Fairmont facilities were offered, it isn't convenient. There was also a lot of noise during the day as construction or demolition crews worked away at the renovations. While the walls shielding the guests from the worksite were tastefully done, they aren't sound proof. The good news is that the entire hotel should be reopened in 2018. I would love to return to see Raffles in all of its grandeur!
Ambience History People on staff
We loved everything about Raffles Hotel
It has a sense of history that one cannot get from modern hotels. Excellent service, friendly but professional.
Can't think of anything I didn't like
The service was wonderful. Our room was absolutely beautiful, and immaculate.
The lack of live music at the gazebo / Courtyard bar. It used to make the atmosphere there even more special.
The best I've ever been in. While the physical plant is equalled or exceeded by other fine hotels, the level of service and the attitude of the staff is beyond any other.
The style of the hotel
3 Singapore Slingh for Euro 40.- !!! in the Long Bar - also drink much too sweet
The classical style of this more then 100 year old hotel we liked a lot. Staff was very helpful and nice.
The TV is old and not many TV Channels. Rates of the hotel are a bit to high.
At least once in a lifetime you should stay at Raffles it is an experience you will never forget.
The room and the garden
No internet in the room, or the internet line doesn't work
Raffles Hotel Singapore is currently undergoing a careful and sensitive restoration that is being carried out in three phases. Phase One has begun in February 2017 and Phase Two has since started on 13 August 2017 where the Grand Lobby, Tiffin Room, Raffles Grill and some of the hotel suites will be closed for restoration works. While most of the hotel is currently closed for restoration, a selection of suites and the Raffles Gift Shop continue to be available. All dining experiences, including Singapore Sling, will be served at Bar & Billiard Room. Hotel check-ins will take place at the East India Rooms. Raffles Gift Shop and 24-hour In-suite dining continues to be available. As our spa, pool and fitness centre facilities will not be available, special arrangements have been made for our guests to enjoy these facilities at our sister property, Fairmont Singapore that is located just across the street. Phase Three will start middle of December 2017 with the hotel fully closed. This restoration is designed to ensure that we retain what is so special about Raffles – the ambience, the service, the charm and the heritage of the hotel. It is also intended to provide the facilities, spaces and experiences that the well-travelled expect. The newly restored Raffles will breathe new life into our beautiful building. With a planned reopening in the end of 2018, you can expect to experience Raffles’ charming ambiance and legendary service and enjoy newly opened bars, restaurants, courtyards, and social areas; spaces designed to make Raffles the place to meet, spend time, shop and celebrate.
