Location was really nice
The main building entrance
The location was perfect - Nevsky Prospect - very short walk to metro. The English speaking was not fluent, but problems were easily dealt with using translation apps
I had to ask a few locals before I found the place because the name is not on the door and it is the top floor of a an address. A comment to explain in more detail wold help.
This tiny 7- or 8-room hotel is located in the very heart of SPB, at Nevsky Prospekt street. It is easily accessible by subway which is just a corner away. It is located in an old historic building on the 7th floor. There are no hotel markings on the street so you have to find the correct address, enter the hall and take the elevator. The outer doors can be opened by a NFC key during the night / outside reception hours. Rooms are clean and recently furnished, but small - especially the bathroom was so tiny it couldn't fit more than 1 person. Hotel offers a typical tasty continental breakfast (eggs, sausage, toast, butter, garnish) which will be served in rooms because the reception area with 2 dining tables would be too small for all guests. Luckily this hotel also offers a dinner which you can choose in advance and the staff will prepare it at the agreed time. It was quite tasty. Another plus is drinkable water which is available 24/7. There is a small balcony in the reception area which you can use to make wonderful panoramic photos of Nevsky prospekt street (see attached photo).
House of Ruehl would be a good, almost a family-like experience IF they would prioritize guest hospitality over money. Unfortunately they didn't and here is why. After just 2 days of my one week paid vacation I was hit by a message that a family member has died. Me and my wife have rushed back to the airport and have returned home immediately. From the perspective of hospitality in this extraordinary situation I have expected the hotel would offer some kind of partial refund or a future benefit for the unused days which were fully paid in advance. Anything would be appropriate and valued, i.e. at least a refund for uneaten meals, or a hospitality voucher / discount to visit them again in the future ... But unfortunately I got nothing. They have bureaucratically stated that rooms are non-refundable and that was it for them. It left sour taste in my mouth. And yes, they have probably resold my room immediately as it was high season in Sankt Peterburg and all hotels were full. So they wouldn't even have to cover any financial burden if they would have shown some empathy in these difficult times for me. Even the airline (where I had non-refundable tickets) was able to sort something out - and will partially compensate me for the missed returned flight. Therefore I unfortunately cannot recommend House of Ruehl until they sort their priorities.
