The whole experience was fabulous. We had a great time. Enjoyed the outdoor onsen after a day spent waking the amazing trails in the area. The food was fantastic and the host very friendly and helpful. Everything was perfect.
The food was extremely delicious and the staff was super nice. The room was very comfy and it had everything you’d need. The bathroom was always clean and I enjoyed the hot spring a lot!
The lady was so friendly and helpful and very positive attitude. The food was amazing and the service was very fast and good. Loved the private onsen, kimono and room layout as well. Had a great stay and it was so nice and relaxing. Thank you!
Excellent ryokan experience and incredibly kind staff. The breakfasts and dinners, which are homemade and with love, were very tasty, copious and neatly arranged. The owner is a lovely lady, very attentive and makes you feel at home as soon as you get through the door! The free private onsen (first comes first served) is a must try! Very quiet and peaceful atmosphere if you need a break from the hustle and bustle from the city. Best place to stay in Yumoto Onsen!
I loved everything about Shiunso! It was the coolest ryokan experience me and my husband had in whole Japan. There was a natural sulfur rich hot spring onsen both indoors and outdoors. The one outside was private, so we could go there together with my husband. Usually onsens are public and men and women are separate, so it was a really great surprise that we didn't have to be separate here! Also the staff was really welcoming and warm and we were served like kings :P Food was really delicious, we had both dinner and breakfast which were amazing. Shiunso is not in Nikko center, but one hour bus drive away in Yumoto onsen area. At first we thought the location is probably not the best, but we were wrong. In the northern side of Yumoto onsen town are really nice hiking trails. We hiked a few trails also closer to Nikko, but the hike just northeast of Yumoto onsen was the best. Also, the whole town smells like sulfur, because sulfur rich water is flowing out from the ground everywhere. That itself is cool experience. And after long hike it was super nice to come have a delicious dinner and hot onsen! This was the highlight of our 3 weeks travel in Japan.
With a stay at Shiunso in Nikko, you'll be within a 15-minute drive of Lake Chūzenji and Nikko Yumoto Onsen. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
