We met other guests who we really connected with and the owner didnt make us feel we overstayed our welcome even though we had a 2 hour breakfast. She even brought us more fruit which was a very nice touch.
The hot breakfast was cold and rather lackluster.
great location for Niagara on the Lake and a great rate for New Years Eve for a place with clean rooms with parking and breakfast, seamless check in and easy access to comfortable rooms
We stayed 6 nights in the Grape Room which is actually 2 bedrooms (the larger room has a small lounge), roomy kitchen and bathroom. The rooms were cosy and warm, and impeccably clean. Leon, our host, was very helpful when we needed taxis or information. Location was great, just 2 mins walk to the main shopping street. Breakfast was provided - everyday a little different and always tasty.
BREAKFAST was the weakest link in this business but they're trying. The simple fare is fine (no more toaster waffles, please) but they need to address presentation (OJ cartons on the table instead of decanter; large bottles of condiments instead of small dish or pitcher, etc.) to make it less like breakfast on your kitchen counter at home. We shared breakfast with another delightful couple and spent 3 hours just talking over coffee while our host brought several rounds of "post-breakfast" snacks. Lovely! LOCATION is the best you could ask for. One block south of the main downtown NOTL shopping street and VERY short walk to restaurants and shops and an easy walk to the lake and Shaw Festival theaters. GREAT location! ROOMS: Due to plumbing problems in our first room, we stayed in two different rooms and BOTH were wonderful. Spacious and very comfortable. Mattresses are FIRM so some people may not like that but we did. Decor is a mix of Victorian and early attic but not unpleasing. We would not hesitate staying in either of these rooms again. Code locks on doors make keys unnecessary and off-street parking was available. Parking would be tight for a large pick-up truck or SUV but fine for most vehicles. Quiet street. HOSTS: Difficult to communicate effectively due to language (Chinese) barrier but they were VERY friendly, kind and accommodating and a smile and a bow can be as communicative as a dozen words so that was little concern. This is a pretty new B&B business and I think that they will work the kinks out and continue to improve over time. Hopefully this honest review will help them in their efforts. We will, definitely, stay here again on our annual visits to NOTL.
As noted above. The host just needs to improve on the breakfast presentation and make it less utilitarian and more fitting for a NOTL B&B where guests are paying a respectable rate for the room and breakfast. We've stayed in many and they range from elegant to hardy but the appearance of the dining table is always neat and gracious appearing. They can improve upon this with a little effort and a few trips to a second-hand store for some used cut-glass decanters for the OJ and small dishes/serving spoons for the condiments (get the OJ cartons and the SAM's club-size bottles of catsup and syrup off the table). These suggestions are not meant to be unkind but, rather, helpful in their efforts to have a successful B&B that people will want to return to. We plan on doing just that!
Our room at Barker house was very comfortable with all the amenities. Our host was so gracious offering snacks to go following a great breakfast. Location perfect to explore NOTL. We definitely would reccomend this place.
