Pros: Great location, hard to beat. We had a port view room with a balcony and the view was really lovely to go to sleep to and wake up to.
Cons: Some of the furniture is a little worn, but nothing that bothered us.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic room with big picture window and balcony overlooking the Port. Great, helpful staff. Restaurant attached to the hotel is in the Michelin Guide and the food and service is excellent - Relais50
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Always stay here when we are in Marseille. An excellent hotel. Rooms are large, bright & clean with of course the unbeatable view of the Old Port. Breakfast is always copious with lots of choice, including smoked salmon, yummy scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, usual cold meats & cheese. Also fresh fruit salad & more....Hotel was very busy & we were impressed with how the lady at breakfast cleared & reset the tables very quickly & kept the food topped up so that there was always plenty. We opted to sit out on the balcony & the breakfast lady was very happy to lay a table for us, despite being very busy inside. Always a delight to stay here. Love it.
Cons: Always hate it when it's time to leave.
7.5 Good
Pros: Location, size, cleanliness
Cons: Staff can be quite curt if you ask them for help...

10.0 Excellent
Pros: This place was an absolute dream to visit during our one night stay en route to the French Riviera. The building is an architectural marvel and carries all the charm you could ever expect from a boutique property in France. The amenities, staff, and room alike lived up to the highest standards and left us in complete admiration. Albeit the city itself likely won’t ever make it on our top list of recommendations to any future travellers, this property was spectacular and definitely a gem to be commended.
Cons: We did have drainage issue in the shower, leaving it to overflow rather quickly, and the wifi signal was extremely weak within the room itself. However, these were minor issues and only mentioned to assist with management in rectifying the issues for other guests and don’t reflect our image of the property in the slightest.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Great spa.
Cons: Bar was understocked and very quiet, sometimes not even staffed.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Bed very comfortable. Nice spa. Super calm.
Cons: The bar was supposed to close at midnight and last order was at 11:30 pm. We arrived at 11:28 pm and everything was already close.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is a 5 minute walk from the bustle and restaurants and shopping of Vieux Port but in a quiet and secluded street. It has a spa which is great for relaxing, fabulous breakfast, great staff and good quality snacking if you are not up to going out for dinner. It’s an old characterful building with understated modern rooms.
Cons: There are no views from the hotel and I didn’t find a lounge but there is an outside patio which is great in the spring and summer and the rest of this very comfortable and stylish hotel in a vibrant city makes up for it
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Full marks to the architects who turns this 19th century townhouse into a contemporary hotel. So many architects would have ruined the character to maximize profits, but here they took full advantage of the building’s character, while giving it all the style you want in a modern design hotel. The service was friendly and professional - the staff seemed genuinely enthusiastic to be working there and were keen to tell us about the hotel’s history and conversion. The breakfast and bar are superb and the spa in her basement is brilliantly designed. Only a short walk from the hotel to all the bits of Marseille you could want to see! Our room was big, with high ceilings and a great bathroom (the shower had room for six people - not that we availed ourself of that opportunity!), and the toiletries from Hermès were a nice touch. We didn’t get to use the private island as we were only there for a night, but that’s just another reason to return, isn’t it? All in all a lovely experience.
Cons: No big deal, but pricing that doesn’t include breakfast is always irritating, particularly at this level.
7.1 Good
Pros: Did not live up to expectation as not very clean and not well maintained.
Cons: 1st room had a strong smell of urine and we were not ordered an alternative. Instead we were forced to upgrade.
Overview Reviews

You can enjoy a pastis aperitif on the terrace with views of Notre Dame de la Garde Basilica, before dining on Mediterranean dishes in the Michelin-starred Alcyone restaurant. Alex Hotel - Marseille - Building

8.9 Excellent (1,361 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located in Marseille (1st Arrondissement), Alex Hotel is within a 15-minute walk of Old Port of Marseille and La Vieille Charite. Featured amenities include a business center, complimentary newspapers in the lobby, and dry cleaning/laundry services.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff everywhere were amazing Breakfast was great - especially the goat cheese and honey omelette - delicious
Cons: The towels in our room weren’t very nice - they could have been a bit bigger and a little bit more fluffy
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were absolutely amazing , we wanted to stay and extra night and they were fully booked but found us a space in their another location , we couldn’t stay but we loved everything so much we will definitely comeback . I fully recommend this property and their staff
Cons: Everything was absolutely perfect
7.0 Good
Pros: Perfect location steps from the train station and a pleasant 15 mins. walk to the vieux port. Cute lobby design and lounge area with complimentary lemon water and coffee. The lounge has a wide selection of drinks and snacks, which we enjoyed. Efficient check-in/check-out process. Room was basic but had a nice balcony with a good view. Staff were friendly and gave us some suggestions on things to do (but not super helpful when a problem arose, see below).
Cons: Room smelled very musty/like sewer. Strangely, there was no smell in the hallway, just our room. We tried to identify the cause and found the pillows smelled absolutely foul - like bad body odour/sweat that had seeped into the pillow and/or the pillow cases were not clean. We had to go to the front desk and ask for new pillows, and staff were flippant and did not even apologize (wishful thinking, I was hoping we would be offered a different room as the stench was so bad). I'm not one to complain and I wanted the staff to smell how bad the pillows reeked so they could understand, but the man who came to the room said it was pointless because he cannot smell anything (okay, this is possible if he had a rare medical condition limiting his smell, but again all I wanted was an apology or some acknowledgement of what went wrong... If I were running a hotel, I would be appalled that such a pillow would be allowed into a guest room. It also made us question the cleanliness of their other linens, but we were only staying 1 night so just tried to suck it up). The breakfast area looked cute but for 14 euros it's a bit pricey, but in keeping with other hotel breakfasts. We ate at a nearby cafe instead. Part of the reason I booked this hotel was because I was excited to use the steam room and dry sauna facilities. I saw in reviews that the cost was 25 euros for 1 person or 40 euros for 2 (reviews within the last year). Well, they jacked up the price to 35 euros per person (cheaper for 2) so in the end I decided it wasn't worth it. For just 5 euros more, I could visit a Relais & Chateaux spa facility for 3 hours (Coquillade Village in the Luberon, look it up, it is stunning!) so ALEX's pricing didn't seem competitive with other spas.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Well renovated property offering modern comfortable facilities. Very close to the station. Breakfast choice was excellent!
Cons: Nothing!
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Great staff. Good beds.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: beautiful hotel with modern design, comfortable, across the street from the train station, big comfortable bathroom, helpful/friendly staff. We arrived early but our room wasn't ready yet, so they held our luggage for us while we went for lunch.
Cons: The area around the hotel, but that's not the hotel's fault. It's a busy area but as I walked around there during the day time, I got the feeling I wouldn't want to walk around there when it gets dark.
6.3 Good
Pros: Location as it is close to the main station
Cons: The breakfast can be improved though
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly and comfortable place to stay. Very clean linen change each day.
Cons: Some street noise early morning.
7.5 Good
Cons: The room was next to the elevator and a bit noisy. We could also hear the music from the lounge.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: The view from my room was spectacular! Actually I had choices between 2 rooms, we pick the 2nd room because the 1st room was missing the safe's key
Cons: The last 2 turns getting to the hotel was super tight! I scraped my passenger's side rear view mirror leaving the hotel. Then again, it could be that I'm not that good of a driver
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful location by the sea, excellent service and homey atmosphere!
Cons: What’s not to like!
9.2 Excellent

Cons: Nothing
7.9 Good
Pros: The location and views were wonderful!
Cons: The decor was very dated and carpet was dirty.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent view and very spacious
7.5 Good
Pros: The bed was outstandingly comfortable, had a lovely nights sleep there. Also the toiletries provided are very luxurious and I like that they aren’t leaving individual plastic bottles for each guest, instead opting for large refillable bottles on the wall. Being able to check out at midday is a lovely luxury too. The bar was a lovely spot to watch the port in the evening. The barman was very friendly. I did think the drinks were expensive, I live in London and am used to paying ridiculous prices but these were a little excessive. The breakfast is lovely, a wide variety of breads, pastries, fruits, cereals, etc. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. However, I do not think it is worth €25 per person - you could eat a lot cheaper in a local cafe/bakery.
Cons: Some of the decor looked a little tired. Providing disposable slippers is not environmentally sound, neither is the shower cap/shoe shine extras.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Location, view from the room, room was clean, staff was friendly and helpful
Cons: nothing
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast OK but would have liked more choice of hot food. Location excellent
Cons: A minor point but the bathroom door in the second room we stayed wouldn't close properly. The bathrooms are starting to look a little tired.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: the breakfast is excellent & provides for all dietary needs. Our room had a view of the old port & we enjoyed sitting & watching the world go by! Highly recommend!
Cons: Hotel is looking tired but it’s part of the atmosphere....

Cons: The staff in the bar and restaurant were very pleasant and helpful. Reception left a lot to be desired. We had arranged to meet friends from overseas at this hotel. When we asked for their room number, we were given an incorrect number. When they asked reception for our room number, they were also given the incorrect room number. Here we were, both believing the other party had failed to show up ..... not clever! When I checked my credit card statement after checking out and departing, I found they had charged twice. I am still trying to recover the money.

Cons: The room was not ready on arrival (16:00). No German TV Channels. Access to German TV via Internet not Possible. Obviously TV Channels other than the Hotel Channels were blocked. Breakfast is too expensive. The so called "Mini Bar" did not contain any drinks only two bottles warm natural (still) water. It was not possible to cool the waterbottles down. The welcome drink was a bit disappointing (watery juice with ice). It would rather be better to leave the drink away.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Staff friendliness was amazing. Everyone very attentive. Special thanks to Santiago at the front desk.
Cons: The A/C was not easy to operate. Might consider changing the system to a more user friendly version.

6.7 Good
Pros: Tidy, neat
Cons: A bit annoying that they had my credit card details and the wanted a deposit even though I had already paid. I don’t know if it’s common practice among hotels but it’s quite frustrating

Pros: Everything except the access to the hotel by car and the parking.
Cons: The access to the hotel when arrive in car and the parking.

Pros: New modern hotel close to Terrases du Port shopping center and a free cruise shuttle bus stop. Room was clean and comfy. Hair & body care samples and a free drink made a nice surprise. No any birthday greetings from the hotel, though.. Anyway, the hotel is great and we really enjoyed our stay!
Cons: The breakfast is quite expensive, so we didn't buy it.

7.5 Good
Pros: Once we got to our room we were pleasantly surprised with the room. The kitchenette was well equipped.

7.5 Good
Pros: Room was comfortable
Cons: Location didnt feel safe in the evening Noise from the road until late at night and from very early (630) kept me awake

Pros: close to the main train station and metro lines. Kitchen ware and dish washing machines definitely a plus. Also recommend those who use Marseille as a brief stop over.
Cons: Room window close to the street so you might be waken up early in the morning due to street cars.

Pros: Location was so incredibly convenient to the train station.
Cons: The food in the hotel restaurant was basically inedible - and expensive.

Pros: There are three (3) ibis Marseilles near the train station. Had difficulty finding the right one. Met a fellow traveler who experienced the difficulty in finding the correct hotel. A map or a number to the hotel would have been great.would

10.0 Excellent
Pros: everything. we go there often
Cons: nothing
6.0 Good
Pros: Close to train station.
Cons: Communication wasn’t easy, most staff can’t speak at least basic english. Restaurant took forever to seat us, service was as slow as the wifi, we waited an hour to eat at 10:00pm with a child. I asked about airconditioning, they could have informed us before check in or at the booking itself. No AC. It was stifling hot in the room.
8.0 Excellent

2.9 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing actually
Cons: Beds, room, breakfast, warm drinks in the room, air conditioning
7.5 Good
Pros: Very basic room. Only hand soap - no little additional things like you get in some hotels. No hair dryer.
Cons: TV remote only increased channel - wouldn't go down - apparently some buttons not working.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Good location but very basic
Cons: Tiny room
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Super comfy bed, decent air con and shower
Cons: Generally felt a little dated and in need of a refresh
7.9 Good
Pros: It’s central and close to the railway station
Cons: One of our party caught the maid red handed stealing money from their room. The manager told them that the maid would never work there again but we saw her when we were checking out. The air conditioning was hopeless.
3.4 Mediocre
Pros: Great room was French doors for air thank heavens because AC was turned hotter then the temperature outside
Cons: Unable to control AC temperature set at 25 or sound of television which was so low you cannot hear it in the bed. The man at the front desk was grumpy and a sour puss and pretended that he cannot understand you. Yelled about giving a plastic cup for water cooler. Needs a different job away from people.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Break fast very good, especially the fresh fruit. Bed very comfy and nice bathroom
Cons: Only problem wad there was a lot of noise from adjoining room and one above. Also we were unable to charge phone in bedroom. However the friendly receptionists helped out
