It’s a beatiful riad. Our room (Indigo) was spatious and comfortable.
Not good service, even though we were the only guests in the otherwise empty riad. (1) We didn’t get a key for the front door, so the concierge had to open it for us each and every time. She was a nice lady, but also excessively talkative (in French I.E.). All this meant that a quick tour to the room to fetch something became a larger than life project. (2) The breakfast was poor – to say the least – with dry bread, luke-warm coffee and rancid (yes, rancid) butter. (3) The room itself was cold and quite dark, specially the bathroom. We told the lady about the unpleasant, chilly bathroom and asked for a radiator, which we didn’t get, although there were radiators around. (4) The rooftop terrace was not in nice order; there were no chairs, no tables and no view, it was more like an exercise yard with clothes-lines for the riad’s laundry and their carpets. --- We stayed two more nights in Essaouira, at another riad, where we paid considerably less than at the Amana, and still got more (including our own front door key (which is the riad normal), rich breakfast, warm room/bath, and a beatiful rooftop terrace).
Riad was spacious and very clean. Breakfast was simple but ample and fresh. Very central. 10 min walk from coach station.
The downside of being central was that we had all the street noise from our room so we didn t get a good nights sleep during our stay. We werent given a key to the main door so had to ring the door bell everytime we returned which made us feel uncomfortable when returning at night as althought the owner was fine about it, it was obvious we were the last in and she d been waiting up.
The Riad hostess Fatima made us feel very welcome. We stayed in the room on the roof, Sahara, which is spacious and comfortable, the bed is enormous and accommodated all three of us comfortably. Being winter we didn't really use the roof terrace much but could imagine it would be a great extension to the room in Spring/Summer. The staff/owner are very kind and even gave us the Riad electric kettle to use for the duration of our stay to so we could make our baby's milk.
Christine and Fatima, who run the Riad were amazing. The couldn't do enough for us and the Riad was always immaculate. It was lovely to come down every morning to a friendly face. They had a great sense of humour and always asked after your day. The Riad itself was always very well presented, with cleaning taken care of while you were out of the Riad. It's well positioned in the centre of the Medina, close to shops and within 5 minutes walk of the beach and harbour. Some amazing restaurants are only 2 minutes walk away, if that. Recommend printing out a map before arriving. If you have large bags, as we did, one of the fellas with the large barrows will push them to your hotel for £4.
Friendly staff, clean and good location.
Very nice hotel and nice staff. Rooms are very well equipped with a typical maroccan style
It was not possible to pay with credit card, quite annoying
Riad Amana was very central to everything and also very clean and new.
Breakfast was very basic. The riad seemed to have opened very recently and the people who run it seemed to lack experience in certain matters however you could see their intentions were to make our stay as comfortable as they could.
